SHARP UPTURN IN STOCKS-VIOLENT RISE IN WHEATDEMAND FOR BALDWIN SHAR
STOCKS STRONG ON
HEAVY BUYING
Covering of Shorts Also Re
sponsible for Advances
Throughout List.
NEW TOniC, March 8.-Encourni?ed by
rport of better trade conditions In vari
ous eectlons of the country, traders put
out demands for stocks today and the
market bccamd strong. There wns also
some buying noted from Investors. The
mibply did not appear to be largo and quo
tations roso easily on any bidding. Open
ing prices were, for the most part, above
the final on Saturday, and as the day
advanced further Increases were made.
Around midday prices were up about a
point all around, and .In somo cases more.
The strength of the market became more
pronounced after the noon hour. Thero
were heavy buying orders from both trad
ers and Investors and prices rose steadily
to new high levels. A very largo short
Interest was caught on the advance and
this' Interest tried vainly to cover, result
ing In higher prices all around.
Throughout the morning session Rend
ing and Steel common were the lenders,
and this was also the case In the after
noon, ntded by tho railroad stocks. Ad
vances of a point nnd a half throughout
tho list were common, while In several
cases stocks rose iS. abovo their final of
Saturday. A few minutes beforo the
close tho market declined fractionally
from the high, but losses wero not great.
Traders regarded tho strength as duo
to tho recurrence of rumors of peace In
Europo In the near futuro and to the
decision of tho Supreme Court In tho
2 cents per mite passenger rate case over
the Norfolk nnd Western in West Vir
ginia, the Supremo Court doclarlhg that
rate Is too low. Norfolk nnd Western
stock responded to the decision by rlstng
a. point.
Sentiment was much Improved through
out tho Street by tho reports of better
trade conditions. These Included a report
from Pittsburgh that for the first time in
nearly two years every department of tho
Carnegto Steel Company Is now active,
about 4000 men have been put back to

The Outlet
The outlet or market for
any security ia the public.
When the outlet and source
of the security are directly
connected, the price ana
value are identical. There
have been no tolls to sep
arate them.
The public is entitled to full,
actual value for every dollar
It invests.
It should pay no tolls, for
they add only to price, noth
ing to value.
Toll locks along the
channel by which a security
reaches the public should be
as offensive to an intelligent
Sublic as toll gates on the
ighway are to an enlight
ened community,
Both are unnecessary and
unfair to the public,
Our source adjoins our
outlet; There are no tolls.
Value equals price.
Our booklet awaits your
request for it.
