Tho passing of tho Harwood Electric
preferred dividend was not altogether un
expected. It was explained thnt the com
pany had a floating debt of about I100.000
which It had been unable to refund, mid
that the directors thought It tho wisest
policy to conserve all cash resources. A
year ngo 3 per cent, wan paid, hut six
months ago the dividend wns postponed.

pnny, a subsidiary of the Lehigh Coal
and Navigation Company, purchased lu
1913 tho Pnrdeo holdings of Harwood Elec
tric stock, which was a majority Inter

dividends have been paid on It. Thero Is
only a comparatively small nmount of
tho preferred, and It Is scattered nmong
Investors, so that tho passing of the
dividend does not vitally affect tho parent
companies other than In the fact thnt
It will have to be paid beforo any divi
