day's dealings. On the whole the tone
was firm, but transitions were small and
devoid of much slgnillcanco throughout
the greater pnrt of the session. Kejstone
Telephone shares failed to icspond to
the January report, which showed an In
crease of J2403 In gross and $1733 In net
enrnlnus. The surplus was 28,650, a gain
of $-'0?3 over January, 10H
Rapid Transit was not so active as of
late It was learned today on good au
thority that the January report of earn
ings, which will bo out shortly, will make
an unusually encouraging showing. Sub
stantial Increases In returns over those
of December are looked for. and In fact
It Is said that earnings are running as
much an MDOO per dav higher than In the
last month of 10H. This Is atttlbuted In
part to the unusually open winter and
also to the evangelistic meetings. The
recent btolng of the stock Is snld to bo
due to foreknowledge of what the Janu
nrv report will show.
Considerable suprlse was expressed b
the removal of all restilctlve limits on
Rapid Transit shares to take effect to
morrow. The way the stock has acted
latrh doubtless convinced the commit
tee thnt there wbh no longer need to safe
guard It.
The result of yesterday's upblddlng of
American Gas Stock was a little trading
In the warrants for tho new stock nt
4 or 25 cents. Very little changed hands,
however, and the stock Itself l elapsed
Into Its previous Inert state.
