FRENCH SOLDIERS GIVE GERMAN DIPLOMAT THE
IRON CROSS
These troopers in Alsace, being well protected by their trenches,
decided to give the enemy something to shoot at and so rigged up
this dummy, which they duly decorated with a cross taken from a
prisoner. It has been riddled with German bullets.

THESE DOLLS
Young Miss Madeline Grubb, of 1214 North
idth street, recently entered a doll-dressing
contest held at a "movie" theatre. She

THE PAINTER NOW PRODUCES HIS WAR-PORTRAYING
BRUSH
Professor Klein Chevalier, a Berlin artist, is shown busy on one of
the first paintings of the present war. His subject is "The Receipt of
the First News of Victory." Soldiers invalided home from the front
are acting as models. It would be curious to know what future
generations will think of the canvas.
