German-American Dall Held Last Night Was
Great Success.
Tho German-American Charity Ball was held
last night In the Academy of Music Tho Acad
emy was crowded to its utmost capacity, an
the affair is always popular and Is looked for
ward to by many overy year. Tho music nnd
chorals which preceded tho grand march wero
rendered very well by tho Maennorchor, Har
monlo and Philadelphia Quartet Clubs. Tho
grand march was led by Director and Mrs.
Georgo D. Forter, and was viewed by a num
ber of Philadelphia's prominent people, Includ
ing the Mayor and Mrs. Rudolph Blankcnburg,
Dr. W. Mullcr, German Consul; Georgo E.
Grlviclc, Austro-Hungarlan Consul; Colonel M.
Richards Muckle, ex-Governor Pennypacker,
Matthew Sonthelmer, Henry Llorz, Edward W.
Slcgman, Albert T. Amann, Adolph Storck,
Wlllnrd E. Barcus, Mr. and Mrs. Franz Ehrllch
and John C. Oeters. .
Tho ballroom was beautifully decorated with
palms, ferns and azaleas, and tho word "Char
ity" was brilliantly Illuminated In electric
1 effects.
Tho women's gowns were all quite elaborate.
Mrs. Porter woro heavy black satin, having a
draped skirt and a bodice of lace, with a girdle
and trimming of coral-colored satin. Mrs.
Ehrllch looked very well In a gown of bluo
Batln, with a tunic of whlto lace. The bodlco of
lace was elaborately finished with pearla and
beaded trimming. Mrs. S. Townsend Zook woro
a gorgeous gown of pink satin, tho waist of
which was bluo panno velvet, trimmed with
fitch fur. Miss Allco Fisher looked well in a
gown of yellow puasy-willow satin, and Mlsa
Marlon Fisher's pink satin dress was made with
a very full skirt and having a girdle of blue
satin. Miss Helen Patterson looked charming
In a gown of blue satin, having a scalloped
tunic, tho bodice of which was made of beaded
trimming, rink roses finished tho costume.
Colonel nnd Mrs. Edward Bowman wero also
Been. Mrs, Bowman looked well In a gown
made simply of gray satin.
The proceeds of the ball will bo devoted to
tho destitute unemployed of tho city.
