GOWNS for evening wear grow more and
more ephemeral, and charming Indeed are
the present-day styles. The fashion of wearing
a yard or so of Illusion, arranged carelessly, yet
with studied effect, over the shoulders, proves
universally becoming, and lt Is hoped will sur
vive another season, for bodices, with their
abbreviated sleeves and extremely daring lines,
are rather trying to some types, and the piece
of filmy tulle relieves the severity. Although
skirts grow more voluminous each day, their
fulneia Is the result of a lavish and skilful
use of material and does not produce the un
wieldy effect which tha skirts of our granoT
mothers or even of our mothers sometimes had.
Rather, it ! a soft, yielding fulness, which
la evidenced only when the wearer is whirling
through the mazes of a dance.
Mr. William Ellis Scull is wearing an ex
quisite cown of white aatln which is cut
straight about the foot. The bodice is tn
crusted with pearls and the whole gown is
enveloped In cloud of tulle. In her hair Mrs.
Scull wear a small pole blue feather fancy.
A handsome gown of American Beauty silk
shot With silver ha been selected by Mrs.
