ROANOKE, Va., Oct. 23. The stock
holders of the City National Bank and
the Exchange National Bank have au
thorized the consolidation of the Insti
tutions under the title of the National
Exchange Bonk. The merger will be-

bined institutions will be $500,000, and

morning, but the tone waa quite steady

York tote was reduced to 4J4 per cent. It
naa been expected that this city would
follow suit, In view of the casing up of
the general money situation. Tho weekly

high since the new system went Into ef

W. Read Fisher, tho third Oldest mem
ber of tho Philadelphia Stock Exchange,
died yesterday at his home, 23S South 13th
street, nt the age of 84. lie had been fall
ing In health for soma time. Mr. Fisher
formerly waB n member of tho firm of
Fisher & Brother, which was succeeded
by. tho present firm of Powell & Co.
Mr. Fisher was born In Philadelphia.
He waa admitted to tho Stock Exchange
1 here In 1S64. He Is survived by a slater,
Mies Solly W. Fisher. Funeral services
will be held at noon, Wednesday, at
Mr. Fisher's late residence. Burial will
bo In North Laurel Hill Cemetery.

present unprecedented conditions. This
unanimous action of the board was fore
shadowed In the annual report of October

free at the advance, however, nnd a re

market was one of strength.
The market nt Liverpool was firm and

erally was bullish. Somo traders wero
disposed to wait for tho purpose of as
certaining If Europe will continue to buy
at the higher prices.
Shipments from North America for tho
week were 8,270,000 bushels, the bulk of
which was consigned to Italy, France,
Greece arid Scandinavia. The United King

is being offered freely, as freight rates
to Argentina move higher. Tho stock of
wheat at Liverpool Is 4,311,000 bushels, s

tion, which waa recently chartered under
the laws of Pennsylvania, will open Its
door for business on New TeaPs Day. Tho
bank will be known na tho People's Bank
of Pennsylvania, and has an authorized
capital stock of more than 150,000. Tho
bank will be located at the northeast cor
ner of 7th street and Glrard avenue.
The capital stock Is made up of 1000
shares at a par value of $50. Tho stock
holders of the new InstltutldS are nil
well-known business men, and the offi
cers are of Bterllna: worth. The hank
will do a general banking business and
also a business of foreign collection.
The bank will be under the direction of
progressive uptown business men, and has

freight rates, are expected to file with
