Although the regular party of worker
that accompany the Itsv. Dr. William A.
Eunday on his campaign trlpa to all parts
of the country Is largo nnd every member
Is busy from the time a campaign opens
until It closes, It has been decided to add
new workers to tho party for the Phila
delphia campaign because of the exten
sive revival to bo conducted here. An
nouncement of the additional workers
will be made In the early future.
The organization plans are so well laid
by Mr. Sunday that each leader Fins some
jrpocMc duty to perform, and what he or
he does dovetails Into the work of the
ether leaders of the pnrty. Besides Mr.
Sunday there were ten nctlvo workers
who were leaders In one kind of work or
another In tho recent campaigns of the
vang-ellst,
One of tho hardest workers for the ad
vancement of the revivals wherever Mr.
Sunday goes, Is Mrs. Sunday. She has
exceptional executive ability, and assists
greatly In the somen's work. She nt
tends many of the drawing room gather
ings of women, and takes charge of some
of the larger meetings for women while
her husband Is busy with the men.
. The Rev. E. H. Emett, who has been
here for some weeks, la largely responsi
ble for the organization for workprevI
ous to Mr. Sunday's arrival In tho towns
where campaigns nre to bo conducted.
He goes ahead of the evangoltst several
weeks, and co-operates with tho local
committees.
There Is only one other clergyman In
the Sunday party. He is the Itov. J. V.
"Welch, who Joined the campaigners but
'hort time ago. He assists In the Dlble
teaching and In conducting many of the
pedal meetings. ,
Anybody who knows anything about
the Sunday campaigns needs no Intro
duction to Prof. Homer W. Itodehcaver,
the singer and composer, who leads the
alnglng In tho tabernacles and keeps
everybody smiling all tho while. By keep
ing the audiences In a good humor he
contributes much to tho success of the
revivals conducted by Mr. Sunday. .
B. D. Ackley Is the pianist and private
ecretary to Mr. Sunday. His home Is
at 830 South 68th street, thlB city, but
it Is seldom he has been there since he
joined Mr. Sunday's party about five
years ago. He Is particularly Interested
in tne Philadelphia campaign, nnd antici
pates the greatest revival Philadelphia
has had In years. Ho composed many
of the hymns used In the meetings.
Joe H. pelce, the man who builds the
tabernacles with so much care, Is one
of Mr. Sunday's converts. Hlk homo was
formerly In Clearfield, and beffaro his con
version he held a liquor license In Clenr
fleld County. Today there Is no more
active worker and devoted member of tho
Sunday party than Mr, Spelce. Not In
frequently he speaks at tho men's meet
ings la tho early part of the campaigns.
Boon after they get started, however, he
leaves for tho next city and starts work
en another big houso of worship.
Miss Frances Miller has charge of the
work of the Business Women's Invitation
Committee. She is a native of California
and a collega graduate, who has done ex
tensive Christian work among the
women.
Mrs. Asher has charge of the extension
work among tho women. For many
years previous to tho beginning of Mr.
Sunday's career as an evangelist she had
been in similar work In the evangelistic
party of Doctor Chapman. Philadelphia
people know her and her work, as she
was here with Doctor Chapman.
Miss a race Saxe looks after the Bible
study and prayer meeting work, and does
much work among the private and publla
school teachers. She has had extensive
evangelistic work experience, having ac
companied the party of Doctor Torrey
around the world,
Fred Selbert, who has charge of tho
tabernacles and makes his home In them,
was formerly a cowboy. He sells hymn
books and does much personal work for
Mr, Sunday.
FINANCINQ CAMPAIGN
COST ABOUT $50,000
Collections Expected to Pay It Soon.
Sunday Gets last Day's Offering'.
The cost of financing the Sunday cam
paign in this city will be about 150,000,
Of this, approximately IS,000 was spent In
tho construction of the big tabernacle
t 19th and Vine streets. Another (;
was spent on the nursery, restaurant and
rest room building across the Parkway
from the Yabernacle.
Office expenditures for printing, post
age, clerk hire, telephones and other pre
liminary work, added to the cost of main
taining; the office and force of workers
during the meetings wilt total about
136,000. Included in the latter will also
be the rental of the house at 19th and
Spring Garden streets, In which Mr. Sun
day and many of his workers will live,
and for another building for the remain
der of the party. Fledges for the ex
penses will be released as soon as the
selections warrant.
The committee in charge of the cam
pagn has made Mr Sunday no guarantee
regarding what he is to receive for his
services and if they had made him an
offer he would ha.ve refused to accept it
He never makes any fixed charge for any
campaign. Instead, when he finds that
he is wanted, be leaves the financial side
of he matter out of the discussion from
(he beginning and demands only that the
ehurch people co-operate to make the
Campaign a spiritual success.
At the close of the meetings an offer
ing for Mr Sunday Is received on the
last day of the campaign, Just before he
leaves, the city Mr. Sunday receives no

FRANCE? E. MULLEP-
efore the next lisue of the Re
ligious Paae we will have greeted the
year 1915.
Church people of Philadelphia have
good reason to be Joyous at the be
ginning of this New Year.
Never has there been so much In
terest In Dlble study, and there has
probably never been such enthusiasm
for an evangelistic campaign as It
found here on the eve of the arrival
of Dllly Sunday,
More than 500 churches, represent
ing every Protestant denomination,
have assisted In planning for the
opening of the campaign.
Some clergymen were not over
Joyous when the announcement was
made that he was coming. 8unday
did not preach as they preached or
as they believed preaching should be
done.
But as the months and weeks have
worn away the criticism has stopped
alto. Today we seldom hear any
church member speak a word against
Billy Sunday or his methods. All hove
come to look forward to his campaign
with deep Interest.
The people of tho churches have
been more devoted to the study of
their Bibles and to the work of en
listing Bible students than they have
ever been In the past. Never has
there been so much evidence of fslth
through prayer. More than 6000
homes are now thrown open twice
each week for prayer meetings.
If Billy Sunday should not win a
convert during his campaign, Phila
delphia will be better for the advance
work that hat been done. No person
can constantly read the Bible and
bow In prayer without being benefited
or without helping to make the world
better.
Let all who believe now rejoice.
PHILLIPS.
THOUSANDS OF LOCAL
PEOPLE IN CAMPAIGN
Singers, Ushers and Committee
Workers Will Have lots of Work.
When the Sunday campaign gets started
there will be thousands of persons en
gaged in active work. Members of Mr.
Sunday's party, In charge of different com
mittees, will call the leaders together as
soon as they arrive and explain what
Is expected of them. Then they will get
busy and will never have a day's rest
until the 10 weeks' campaign Is ended.
Great care Is taken in training the
workers, and the ushers are always given
two or three evenings' drilling before the
work actually begins. There will be 400
ushers engaged In taking care of the
crowd each night. A coll for volunteers
resulted In responses from about 1200 ex
perienced men from hundreds of churches.
More will be enlisted as rapidly as pos
sible. In addition to the army of ushers there
are now approximately 500 women
definitely committed to the women's In
vitation Committee, of which Mrs. Edwin
C. Qrice Is chairman. Then there will
be 3600 persons In the choir; on the
General Committee there are about 100
men ana women; there will be 150 secre
taries, and since three men are being n
rolled from each church interested for
work in the men's league, it is possible
that there will he more than 1500 "per
sonal worker" leaders.
Besides all these organisations there will
be the hundreds of chairmen and secre
taries In charge of the district prayer
meetings in homes, scores or men. in
charge of the shop meetings, which do
so much good by bringing the men to
the meetings and keeping them Interested
Members of Mr Sunday's party visit
many of the shops and sometimes Mr
Sunday goes himself. Through the shop
and factory meetings the Rev. B, II,
Emett. Mr. Sunday's assistant, says
thousands of men aro reached. Further
he says-
"Mr-. Sunday's plan of organization is
such that It seeks to meet any demand of
emergency that may arise. Members of
the Sunday party. Including Mr Sunday,
are coming to Philadelphia expecting to
put the best thai '" thorn Into (he
work. No sacrifice is too great for any
metpber to make if it contributes some
thing, to the upbluldlng of the church.

repeated In this city, the men of tho
Blblo classes will yield a great harvest
for the campaign and will serve as a
permanent organization when Mr. Sunday

Because of the work of Increasing the
Interest in Bible study pastors In all parts
of the city are feeling the results in
their churches. The Rev. Dwight C.

75 of 63 men at the Bible class list Sun

interest among men ns at present. Dur
ing the last four weeks his men's class
has Increased 500 per cent. There are
now more than 100 men in the class,
as against 20 four weeks ago. The class
of the Tioga Presbyterian Church has
Increased to more than 345 men from

A new Church of Christ (Scientist) Is
being planned for (He extreme southern
part of Philadelphia. The growth of
tho number of followers of the church
founded by the late Mrs Eddy In this
city has been so rapid that some of the
advocates of tho denomination assert that
it Is positively necessary for a new edifice
to ue erected to tako oare of the wor

for the proposed church, It Is the plan
to have It erected In tho vicinity sf the
Qlrard estate, west of Broad street. From
this section of the city more than half a
hundred persons go to the First Chris
tlon Science Church, Walnut street above
toth C
Following their usual custom the Scien

the new edifice until the funds are avail

the work will be started In the spring.
