drop In Now York. It will b recalled
that Philadelphia quoted tho minimum
on Baldwin at 103U. with the divi
dend on ft few days ago, but that,
In consequence of Its selling In New
York at 104i, the higher price was fixed
here Whon the 3V4 per cent, dividend
was deducted tho limit was only reduced
to IM'i analn, and It sold at 102i. New
York, however, sent out notice last night
that th minimum should bo 101. so the
local quotation wast also cut,
Tho other two Issues cn which reduc
tions were established were General
Asphalt common at 32 and Lake Superior
at 10. In both, sates were recorded nt
the new low points today, which showed
a loss of one and two points, respectively.
Elsewhere price changes were slight and
tlio tone firm, with moderate demand for
United States Steel. Electric Btorage
was Aim at 49 and Lehigh Navigation
nas strong. Jtapld Transit, the Tonopahs
and United fins Improvement sacged off.
It became known today that Lake
Superior Income bonds, the last sale of
tvhlch was at S3, had been offered re
cently at CO without a transaction be
ing effected. The decline, of course. Is
due to the defaults which have occurred
on some of tho securities of tho com
paring subsidiaries. The limit on the
httfok, as already stated, was reduced to
day. In the flnnl dealings L'nlted Gas turned
lieav), extending; Its earlier decline to a
full point at 82. On the other hand, Le
high Navigation certificates rose to 7.
In the bond division Intel state 4s at
tracted attention because of the an
nouncement In the reduction In outstand
ing pieferred stock. A J1WX) bond sold at

ket at Liverpool also was quiet, with
pressure In distant positions. Conditions

WHEAT AREA LARGER
WASHINGTON. Dec. 17.-The Crop
Iteporting Board. Department of Agri
culture, today estimated that the area
of winter wheat sown this fall Is 11.1
per cent, more than In 1913, equivalent
to an Increase of 4,135,000 acres. Tlio In
dicated total area Is 41,263,000 acres. The
condition of the crop on December 1 was
8.3, against 97.3 011 December 1, 1913. The
10- ear average la 90,3.
The rye area sown this fall is 2.S per
cent, more than In 1913, equivalent to
nn Increase of 78,000 acres, tha indicated
totul area being 2,831,000 acres. The con
dltlon on December 1 was 33.0, against
B3.3 last year. The 10-ycar average Is 93.
CONDEMN EMERGENCY RULES
LONDON, Dec. 17. A resolution was
passed at a mass meeting of the mem
bers of the Stock Exchange this after
noon condenmnlng the emergency rules
of the Kxchango and the manner In
which the committee administers them.
A 1 esolutlon was also passed demanding
that all new rulen hereafter be submit
ted to the members of the Exchange be
fore they are confirmed by the commit
tee, especially any rules regulating the
reopening of the Exchange.
