TAYLOR VICTORY
IN TRANSIT POLL
Ctnttisotd frem rarei Ono
1ho who fall id attend these meet-tag-
will be visited tn every section by
a committee representing; the ward or
ganizations, Some ot the Councllmen tn the non
eomtaltat cUis showed that they were
acttiatttl by selfish motives. Two or
three aald they were opposed to the
Taylor Idea because It did not maka
special provision for their districts.
Another said he feared the Director's
plan would Ultimately Increase the tax
rate.
The Costello plan was condemned be
cause It would Interfere with the entire
project.
In view of the wholesale indorsement
of the Director's proposed lines, It Is
renerally believed that Councils will not
delay the passage of the ordinance ap
propriating $MO,000 for the re-locatlon of
.sewers In the transit loop which was In
troduced on Thursday. This Is the first
decisive step toward 20th century transit
Following are the Councilman's Views:
JFirst Ward

Man t
I am In favor of Director Taylor'a
rapid transit plan and oppose the reso
lution of Mr. Costello for nn elevated
line to Frankford.
DR. HARVEY M. lUCIHTBR, Common
Councilman:
I am favorably Impressed with the
Taylor plan.
JACOB GINSDUnO, Common Council
man: I am opposed to the Costello ordi
nance. Second Ward
HARRY C. IUN8LEY, Select Council-
man:
I am not for the Costello plan. There
Is one objection to the Taylor plan; the
question of finance.
CHARL.KS C. A. BAL.DI, JR., Common
Councilman:
There Is no question that Director
Taylor has the better plan, but It Is
too much of a reform. The few re
formers In Councils haven't a look-in.
They are lost In the McNIchoKVare
crowd. Councils Is pretty much up In
the air on the transit problem.
Third Ward
HKNRY J. THAINER, Select Council
man; I will not be a party to either plan
until better service Is Guaranteed for
downtown.
FREDERICK J. CUNEO, Common

ests of his own section and not view
ing tho broad Interests of the com
munity. Fourth Ward

bers will oppose It. I am led to be
lieve that Costello wishes to help
the section ot the city which he rep
resents. DR. B. B. GLEASON, Common Council
man I approve of tho Taylor plan moat
decidedly. The only objeotlon ls that
it will require too much time.
Tenth Ward
JOSHUA EVANS. Select Councilman:
I am not familiar with the plans.
Where ls the money coming from?
GEORGB M'CURDY, Common Council
man, president Common Council and mem
ber Councils' Finance Committee:

cuss the matter.

DR. THOMAS J. MORTON, Common
Councilman:
I am not greatly Interested In tran
sit. In my locality property values
ha decreased since the suburban
districts were benefited by high-speed
lines .
DR. W. W. TRINKLE, Common Coun
cilman: I have hot looked Into the matter.
Twenty-first Ward
.THOMAS S. T. MACKLEER, Select
Councilman:
I favor a plan whereby patrons can
reach any section of the city for a
C-cent fare
GEORGE E. DORWART, Common

I am heartily In favor of the project
offered by Mr. TaIor, and will do
everything In my power to bring It
to a successful termination.
JOHN P. THOMPSON, Common Coun
cilman: I favor the plans of Dltector Tay
lor, Twenty-second Ward
SHELDON POTTER, Select Council
man: I am decidedly In favor of tha Tav-
lor plan. The granting of piecemeal
franchises Is a very unwise method.
We have had enough experiences with
single projects, which later form com
bination, and with the combinations
comes water. Taylor's plan has been
prepared by the best engineering tal
ent In tho United States.
DR. JOHN B MINDHART, Common

Director Taylor knows more about
rapid transit than does Mr. Costello
Tajlor has the best Interest of the
city at heart, and I shall certainly
support him.
CONGRESSMAX-ELECT GEORGE P.
DARROW, Common Councilman:
I favor a comprehensive plan that
includes every section of the city
PRINGLE BORTHWICK, Common
Councilman:
I Indorse Mr. Tailor's comprehen
sive plan and disapprove ot any In
dependent movement

as Mr. Costello Introduced would put
a final spoke In the plans of Mr. Tay
lor, which practically all parties have

I favor the Taylor plan and will
oppose anything that threatens to

plan and agree with the Evbnino
Ledcjer.
Twenty-fourth Ward
GEORGE B. DAVIS. Select Councilman:
I never took any stock In the Cos
tello resolution, and do not believe
It , will come up ror vote. Taylor's
plan should not be Interfered with.
WILLIAM H. CROSS, Common Coun
cilman: The Costello ordinance Is not for
the betterment of the city as the
Tailor plan Is.
GEORGE C. PARRY, Common Coun
cllman; I am convinced that Director Tay
lor's plan Is by far the beat.
PETER J. GALLAGHER, Common
Councilman:
I think that the Costello plan would
Interfere with and handicap the Tay
lor plan.
Twenty-fifth Ward

for Introducing such a resolution. Mr,
Taylor Is a wonderful man and knows
more about transit affairs than all the
rest put together.
BERNARD J. McQUIGAN. Common

I am heartily in favor of Director
Taylor's plan and just as heartily op.
posed to the Costello resolution.
