WITH the holidays close at hand the season
seems to have reached Its height, and
each day brings an unending round of lunch
cons, bridges, teas, with the usual accompani
ment of dinners nnd dances, The popularity
of bridge seems to have taken n. decided slump,
for very few tvomen there nro who do not In
stead prefer to spend their spare time knitting
or sewing for the destitute. Teas are different,
for, ns they nro generally given to meet some
particular person, they become an obligation,
tho same holding good of luncheons.
At a number of teas, given during the past
week, many nttractlve costumes were rioted.
One of the prettiest little debutantes of tho
senson, Miss Mary Denckla, was noticed
wearing a good-looking costume uf teto de
negro. Over a graceful frock of crepe de
chlno In this shade, she woro a long black
coat with an upstanding collar of skunk fur.
Her hat was of teto d' negre satin with an
upturned brim and two French plumes flaring
nt each side.
Miss Prlscllla Bohlen was seen nt the
Bellovuc-Stratford the dansant on Saturday
afternoon wearing an extremely smart suit

fur. Miss Megnrgee's hat Is a sailor of black
satin, the solo trimming being a band formed
of a series of gun-metal links around the
crown. With this the young girl wears oddly
shaped long pendant earrings of dull silver.
Mrs. W. Reynolds Wilson Is wearing a smart
costumo of black satin, trimmed with Gobelin
blue, and a large flat hat of satin, trimmed
with a wreath of fruit In different shades.

Hall for Miss Ruth Coxe.
The first large bait of the season was given
last night at Horticultural Hall by Mr. and Mrs.
Alexander Brown Coxe, of Nawbeek, Paoll, In
honor of Mlsa Ruth Coxe, the debutante daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brlnton Ooxe.
The decorations were very elaborate. The stair
way was banked with ferns and pink azaleas,
the walls wero draped with Southern smtlax,
and tho windows with cerise curtains. The
orchestra was hidden behind a bank of palms
nnd smilnx. The guests were seated for supper
at small tables, profusely decorated with cut
flowers. Many beautiful gowns were worn.
Miss Ruth Coxo chose a gown of white satin
nnd tulle.
Mrs. Alexander Brown Coxe was dressed In
n gown of black satin, with a covering of tulle
beautifully embroidered with gold.
Mrs. Henry Brlnton Coxe wore u gown of
green velvet. Her Jewels were a dog collar of
pearls and diamonds and a handsome rope of
pearls.
Mrs. Stotcsbury chose a beautiful gown of
white satin, embroidered with silver. Her Jew
els were a dog collar of large pearls and dia
monds, also pearl and diamond earrings, and
two ropes of pearls.
