TAKES PLACE TONIGHT
Tliirly.Jiftli Annual Brill Will Bo Held
Tonight at the Academy of Music,
at 9 o'Clock.
The 35tn annual Charity Ball will take place
this evening In the Academy of 3Iuslc. Thero
will be an unusual nnd spectacular exposition
of modern nnd old-fashioned dancing by ama
teurs and professionals, who will be judged by
a voting contest. The opening feature, after tho
contest, will be composed of four sets of 30
couples each, representing the four beneficiaries,
tho surgical wards of the University of Penn
sylvania Hospital, tho maternity department of
tho Jefferson Hospital, the Rush Hospital for
Consumption and tho Children's Hospital of
Philadelphia. . Tho dancers In each set will wear
the colors of tho hospital they represent which
will result In a beautiful and crtcctlvo color
scheme. Charlos 8. Morgan has been coaching
the dancers, and they will exhibit the latest
steps in the vnrlous dances.
The University Hospital group, mnnnged by
Mrs. Thomas C. Ashton, will dance the new
Castle polka. Following tho group dancing there
will be solo dancing, and Mrs. Ashton's set will
have on exhibition of the lulu fado by two
prominent professionals. Tho Jefferson Hos
pital group, In charge of Mrs. B. Dobson Al
temus, will exhibit tho newest variations of the
fox trot. Following tho group, Mr. and Mrs
Qulnn, professional dancers, of New York, wll
do a specialty dance.
Ths group representing tho Bush Hospital
will be, In charge, of Mrs. Mahlon N. Kllno and
will dance the hesitation waltz. Following the
group will be a remarkable solo dance by Mlsi
Eleanor Dougherty. Sho la a daughter of
Judge Hampden Dougherty, of New York, and
a sister of Paul Dougherty, tho artist, nnd Wnl
tor Hampden, the well-known actor. Miss
Dougherty has been studying for some time,
but this will be her first public appearance. She
will do an orlglnnl Interpretative dance, an ex
pression of a poetic Idea through dancing and
gesture. The title of tho danco Is"Tho Coming
of the Sun Night, Dawn nnJ Day," and the
theme will be cnrrled out In three movements
Artistic spot light effects and changing of veils
will carry out tho transition from darkness,
through dusk to daylight.
The mazurka -wilt be danced by the group
representing tho Children's Hospital. Mrs.
Joseph P. Hutchinson has charge of tho group,
which will bo followed by a solo dance by Miss
Leta Sullivan, who will do the old-fashioned
humorcsque.

the fund by an entertainment, which proved
to be a very successful affair. A number of
