Harry Yudclscn, one of the leading Jew
ish communnl workers downtown, died
suddenly this morning at tho Jewish
Hospital, Ho had been suffering from a
cancer In the stomach and was operated
upon several weeks ago.
Mr. Tudclson was nctlvo In all the Jew
ish philanthropic and educational Insll-,
tutlons In tho southern section of tho
city. Himself an Immigrant, having conic
to this city from Itussla 23 years ago, he
dovotcd his cntlro llfo to the uplift ot
his coreligionists. Ho was ono of tho
founders of tho Central Talmud Toroh,
314 Catharine street, tho leading Hebrew
school In this city and ono of the biggest
In tho country: was one of the founders
or tho Jewish Sheltering Homo nnd Homo
for the Aged, nnd was nlso actively In
terested In virtually nit tho other Jewish
Institutions In tho city.
Mr Yudclson was single. He Is survived
by threo brothers and three sisters. Tho
funeral will tako placo from his lato resi

Death followed a lingering Illness, lasting
through the past two jears.
Doctor Burdctte had been living In Cali
fornia during the latter pait ot his life,
but for many of tho jears of his popular
ity an a lecturer and writer ho resided In

Among hit loent friends Is the Bev. Dr.
J, Q. Walker, pastor of the Mantua Bap
tist Church, West Philadelphia, who re
ceived a letter from the humorist, which
was written during thd das when hit
health wat broken, But even then, al
though regretting his inability to speak.
Doctor Burdette still showed hit spirit of
good humor. Another local friend of tho
lato writer Is the Bev. Dr. A. J. Rowland,
of tho BAptlst Publication Society. Every
body In this section knew lilm only as
"Bob" Burdette, he was so popular. Ho
left Brn Mawr nbout 25 years ago to
settle In California.
Doctor Burdetto was a native of Greens
boro. Pa., where he was born on July
30. 18U Early In his life he removed with
his parents to Peoria, 111. In that city
somo 40 years ago he began to cultivate
his good humor while working on the
staff ot tho Peoria Transcript. He began
his lecture tours In 1878, and for 20 years
afterwards he traveled through all parts
of the United States, scattering pleasuro
about him everywhere by his good
natured optimistic talks
In 1P03 he left the lecture platform to
become pastor of Temple Baptist Church,
Los Angeles, having been ordained at thnt
