Charles Novlllo Buck, author of "The Battle
Cry," gathered his material for this melodrama
of Ufo In tho Cumberland Mountains whllo
working ns a reporter and cartoonist for the
Louisville Evening Post from 1900 to 1303. AVIth
irvln S. Cobb ns his colleague. Buck was as
signed as special correspondent In Frankfort
during the several trials of the Gocbcl case.
This Is his first play.
"Tho New Shylock," by Herman Schcffauor,
which wus recently acted by Miss Hornlman's
company nt tho Manchester Repertory Theatre,
Is tho first Americnn play to be presented nt
this famous English playhouse. Tho play's
action takes placo In tho Ghetto of New York,
where the author was a settlement worker for
two years.
Pcnrhyn Stanlaws, the artist, and Stanley
Olmsted, newspaper writer, have collaborated
In a play, "The AVInd and tho Lamb." The
original scenario, prepared by Mr. Stanlaws,
was accepted by tho late Henry B. Harris. Mr.
Stanlaws delayed completion of the work until
recently, when ho called In Mr. Olmsted.
Tho Richard Harding Davis-Jules Eckcrt
Goodman Play, "The Trap," Is to bo revived
later. Arthur Hammcrsteln, Its producer, yes
terday arranged to present the play at either
tho Republic or Eltlngo Theatre, New York,
Christmas week, Robert Edcson has been en
gaged for one of the principal roles. The cast
will include also Tully Marshall, Orrln Johnson
and Elaine Hammcrsteln.
Miss Loulso Dresser, the comedienne and song
stress, who Is appearing In vaudeville, declares
that sho much prefers rose bushes to diamonds.

"Why, how could you do that alone?"
