A rather startling Innovation tvns made
at tho Dellevuo-Stratford Hotel last night
when the Stratford supper room was
thrown open shortly after 10 o'clock and
dnnclnB permitted until early this morn
lnc. With the tables In the centre of
the room cleared "for action," tho
dancers In evening dress, nnd many wom
en enjoylnff cigarettes, the supper room
rivaled In appearance the gay scenes at
the balls In the Hotel Savoy, In London.
While waiters rushed about serving hur
ried supper orders to guests at the tables,
enthusiastic dancers, both old and young,
women decollete In clinging gowns and
sparkling Jewels, Indulged the newest
dances.
The presence of many well-known soci
ety people, the wonderful display of
gorgeous gowns, soft lights and tho musle
played by a hidden orchestra, made the
Innovation a striking success.
' Finished In dull gold, the room made a
striking Impression. Tha massive col
umns, the quaint tapestries, and espe
cially the lights, half hidden and subdued,
gave to the room an attractive appear
ance of mixed statellness and frivolity.
Large palms "shade" the orchestra,
which can bo heard though not seen.
The dancing floor was Inviting. From
the first MaxUe until early In the morn
ing tht. guests whirled, trotted, cantered
and walked to the accompaniment of live
ly airs. Every selection was encored.

according to an unofficial list compiled
today by South Trimble, clerk of the

The llnc-up under this compilation,
which has not yet been officially veri

J. Total, 433.
As It requires 2IS votes to control tho
House, these figures show the majority

Will Hold Three-day Session Here.
The annual meeting of the American
Specialty Manufacturers' Association will
be held at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel
November 15, 3) and 21. There are 200
members of the organization, represent
ing probably as much capital as any trade
body, and moat of the members have ex
pressed their Intention of being present.
On Novepiber 13 the Philadelphia rep
resentatives will entertain the members
of the American Specialty Manufacturers'
Association and wholesale grocers of thl
district In the banquet and ballrooms o(
the Bellevue-Stratford.
During Its sessions the convention will
be addressed by Governor Tener, W. A.

expert miners, working in steady shifts,
havo tolled Incessantly for more than
60 hours to rescuo William Schrelncr and
William Evans, both middle-aged men of
families, who were entombed In the
Bronkslde colliery at Tower City while
engaged In "robbing" pillars. This Is a
dangerous employment, consisting of re
moving the solid coal pillars, which are
left to support the roof of all coal cham
oers, this work being the lust done prior
to abandoning a section of a mine opera
tion. Sobbing and hysterica relatives of the
Imprisoned men watch at the top of the
shaft for news of their loved ones, hope
ful that thoy may yet be rescued alive.
The rescuers, , however, have beon un
able to get any responso to their sig
nals, or Tappings," as the miners term
them, and they believe they lie dead,
burled beneath hundreds of tons of coal
and debris. Tho rescuers, though, con
tinue their tunneling with feverish hanto
and aro taking no chni.ces on the men
being dead.
