at tho ankles. Her hat Is a small black velvet,

white stripe silk. To comploto this charming
costumo Miss Clay wears long drop topaz ear
rings, which are most becoming with her Titian
hair.
A trotteur of lustrous broadcloth In tho now

The gown has a wldo glrdlo of deep purplo,
which exactly matches hor hat, and tho latter,
being of velvet, nrlds the necessary fall touch
to tho costume. Mrs. Wldener carries a smart
purple parasol.
Robin's egg blue taffeta In a danco frock Is
particularly becoming to Miss Elizabeth Mac
Cuen Smith. Tho skirt has three distinct
flounces, each of which has a lace rufflo under

laco Is In a scallop pattern, nnd gives a dainty
touch to the frock. Tho bodice Is made of the

A white net frock with a Roman border Is
being worn by Miss Helen Van Dusen, who Is
noted for her charming costumes. Tho skirt Is
mado In three-tier fashion, each flounce being
edge'd with tho Roman border. An eton Jacket
effect of tho goods Is worn over a laco founda
tion, nnd makes a particularly pretty bodice.
A wide satin girdle in old rose finishes the

The first social event of tho season to bo
given by tho members of tho Phllomuslan Club,
3944 AValnut street, will bo a reception at the
clubhouso this evening to Mrs. Percy V. Penny
backer, president of the General Federation of
Women's Clubs. Mrs. Pcnnybackcr, who
makes her homo In Texas, where she is widely
known and much loved In club circles, was
elected at the biennial meeting tn Chicago last
June.
The reception will ba attended by nearly all
the members of tho club nnd their husbands.
Mrs. Pennybackcr will give an address, the
subject of which will be "Tho Inspiration of
Youth." All the arrangements of tho rccop

nlston. of Springmead, Germantown, and Henry
D. Booth, Jr., took place today at noon in Cal
vary Church, Germantown. Tho ceremony was
performed by the Rev. Samuel Booth, a brother
of tho bridegroom, assisted by the Rev. James
Do Wolf Perry, rector emeritus of tho church.
Miss Dennlston was given in marrlago by her
father. She wore a gown of soft satin and rich
laco and carried a bouquet of orchids and lilies
of the valley. Her veil was attached to her
hair with sprays of orange blossoms. Miss
Kathleen Dennlston, her sister, was maid of
honor, and tho bridesmaids wero Miss Esther
Booth, a sister of tho bridegroom; Miss Anna

night from S to 10 o'clock In celebration of
their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Tho
house was beautifully decorated with autumn
leaves, fall flowers and ferns. The hosts were

Mrs. William Mattern and children, of Forest
Hills, L. I., have returned home after spending
several weeks with Mrs. Mattem's mother, Mrs.
Helen Hogan, at 210 Cooper street.
Miss Helen Rogers, of Merchantvjlle, has re
turned from a several months' stay Jn Connec
ticut. Mrs. J. D. Bulifant and sons have closed their
Avalon cottago and returned to their home at
5th and Linden streets.
Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Slekler, of 411 Cooper
street, accompanied by Mrs. Pavid Jerer, of
6th and Linden streets, and Mrs. Anna Watson,
of 45H Spruce street, Philadelphia, motored to
Egpt Mills, Pika County, Pa, Friday, to re
main for a week.
