puckering his lips.

" There ! Was it sweet ?"
"As sugar. And now about your
father. Will he have any objections to
this little arrangement of ours?"
" 0 no." -
" Well, then, it's settled, I suppose."
And so these two lovers seated them

he could in her company, and so he
passed t wo hours and seventeen InhiliteH
every evening in her society, and before
the expiration of the two weeks he had
made -twit proficiency in the art of love,
that he could kiss almost as well as you

THE LANCASTER WEEKLY INTELLIG-ENCER, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER
tion, because in no other way can you
realize the feelings of Miss Sarah Mc-
Kenzie when she made this very im
portant and startling discovery men
tioned above.
Miss McKenzie was of a very nervous
temperament. I don't know whether I
have mentioned this before or not, but
such was the fact. She was one of that
kind of women whb,fly all to pieces
about once a month, (she wasn't one of
those that take themselves to pieces
every night-0 no !) and she was just
one of those women whom I should
rather live with a week than a fortnight.
I'm fairly ashamed of myself for talk
in•g -o about my heroine, but I will tell
the truth if I have to spoil the story.
I;ut I want you to understand me. I
merely say - that Sarah was of a nervous
tern perament, and I'm sure that's noth
ing very bad. She was the most agree
abli. woman I ever met, without any ex
ception, for a single evening; and she
was pretty, mid—but she would
And she flew now, right up the steps,
through the hall, and into the sitting-
room.
0, must I tell it I believe I will. but
my pen fairly blushes while I write.
There he was in t arms of the most
beautiful woman that Miss Sarah Mc-
Kenzie ever saw. And she was kissing
him, and lie was kissing her, while
three very interesting children were
gathered around them, screaming at the
top of their little voices, " papa, papa."
It was really to bad to spoil such a
loving picture of domest:c bliss ; consid
ering the scarcity of such pictures, but
laralt. never cared much about high art,
and she was feeling esecedingly ner
vous, and so she flew at Mr. Gunther
with a determination to spoil hispicture,
if she couldn't du anything else.
" 0, you tiCalllp I" cried r , •arali, fixing
taper lingers in Gunther's hair and pull
ing fait huge handfuls.
Mr. Gunther's first thought was that
she wanted to collect enough for a hair
mattrass, but when she called :him a
I scamp, lie began to think there must be
some mistake.
"0, you viillau! to try to marry an
innocent young girl, when you are al
ready married," and the hair Ilew wot'se
than before.
Mrs. (.;utitlier Hided :uld the chil
dren screamed, but persisted.
" Why, why—woman you're toad' . '
yelled Gnntlit•r, " I don't know
you. " Don't know me I Then I'll
I make you know me," and again the
hair flew.
