WEBB,' Suknz pot Railroad. T " UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD CO. ol4E4iinalim./4foimmorrumit FIRST MORTGAGE BONDS A. p PAR, PRINCIPAL AND IN'IzRZEIT PAYABLE IN GOLD. The Great Pacific Railroad Line, extending 1711 miles from Omaha, 911 the Miami River, to the tide, ivaters of the Paaillo Ocean, la being built by two powerful Companle—The Union Pacific, beginning at Omaha, building West, and the Central Pada* of California, begin- Ding at Sacramento, buildincEast, until the two wads shall meet." Both Companies have prosecuted the work with great visor, the Union Pacllitc, having al- ready expended over THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS, and the Central over Twenty Marking, upon their respective parts of the undertaking— THE UNION PACIFIC HAVE COMPLETED 550 MlLES—have iron and other materials for two hundred miles upon the ground, and one hundred additional miles are ready for the track. They will have amuch larger force em ployed thin year than ever before, and it is ex pected that between 800 AND 900 MILES will be in operation during 1888. There seems to be no reasonable doubt that the dtatanoebe• tween Omaha end Sacramento will be travers ed by rail in 1870. THE GOVERNMENT GRANTS 12,800 acres of land, and its Bonds to the average am; •nt of E 28,000 per miles, to aid in the conatructlo • of the line, and authorizes the tumor the First Mortgage Bonds now offered for sale, to ;the same amount and no more. The Government takes a second lien, and gives to the First Mort gage Bondholders a prior lien for their seem , ity, to which a large paid-up capital is added. The Bonds cannot be issued except as each sec tion of twenty miles is accepted by Govern ment commission, so that they always repre sent a real property. It is universally admitted that on the com pletion of the Union Pacific, Railroad, its through business will make it one of the most profitable in the world—but its way or local business is already several times the interest on its bonds; so that, if not another mile were built, they would be a secure investment. - THE NET EARNINGS for eight months of butt year on an avrage of 380 miles are MB daily reported atV1,06,139, while the inter est on all the bonds it could issue on that length of road for that time, reduced to cur rency, Wantonly 8345,850. The amount paid by the Government for the transportation of troops, munitions, stores and mails has been, and doubtless will continue to be, much more than the intereston the United States Second Mortgag 'Bonds. If it 113 not, the charter provides that after the road's complet ed, and until said bonds and interest are paid, at least five per cent. of the net earnings of the road shall be applied to such payment. The Union Pacific Bonds are for 51.0h.10 each, and have coupons attached. They have thirty years to run, and bear annual interest, paya ble on the first day of January and July at the Company's Office in the City of New York, at the rate of six per cent. in gold. The Principal is payable in gold at maturity. At the present rate of gold, these bonds pay an annual income on their cost of NEARLY NINE PER CENT., AND IT IS BELIEVED THAT THEY WILL SOON BE AT A PREMIUM. The Company have but a very limited supply of their Bonds remaining on hand, but any subscrlptionsaecepted to a greater amountthan can be tilled from Bonds now in the Company's possession, will be supplied from the New Bonds to be issued on that portion of the road completed in the Spring, in the order In which they are received. The Company reserve the right to advance the'price of their bonds to a rate above par at any time, and will not fill any orders or re ceive any subscriptions on which the money has been actually paid at the Company's ogle° before the time ofsuch advance, Parties subscribing will remit the par value of the bonds and the accrued interest in cur rency at the rate of six per cent, per annum, from the date on which the last coupon was paid. Subscriptions will be received in Lau caster,by LANCASTER NATIONAL BANK. REED, bicaRANN & CO., BANKER:A. Parties subscribing through local agents, will look to them for their safe delivery. A PAMPHLET AND MAP FOR 1888 has Just been published by the Company, giving fuller information than is possible in an advertise• ment, respecting the Progress of the Work, the Resources of the Country traversed by the Road, the Means for Construction, and the Value of the Donde, which will be sent free on application at the Company's office or to any of the advertised agents. ap 18 3mdctsv Sew fflovit AdverfiumentO. EGYPTIAN CORN lit ) 5 EG CORN I I YPTIA i , j EGYC OPTRN l IAN 1 I Anapicium melioris crvi. Quid pro quo THE subscriber offers to farmers through out the country the EGYPTIAN CORN, which, upon trial, was found to ripen, planted even the last of July. It is estlmal ed, from its very prolific qualities, to yield lio bushels per acre, and weighs, by sealed measure, 6.S pounds to the bushel. This corn was produced by some procured direct from Mr. Jones, our consular agent, directly on his return from Egypt. it needs no different culture from that of other varieties, and In the South two crops can be raised in one season on the same ground.— It grows in the form of a tree, and thirty-four ears have grown upon one stock, and will average from five to fifteen. For domestic use it is unparalleled. When ground and properly bolted, it is equal in color and fineness to wheaten flour. 45 a forage crop, by sowing in drills, or broadcast, for early feed, there is no kind of corn so well adapted to milch cows, and none that will yield half the value Install or corn. It can be successfully grown in any State. I give the moat satisfactory relerencee that the corn is, in every respect, what I represent I it to be ; and, farther, am the only person throughout the country who hag this variety of corn. Having secured a quantity, lam now able to 1111 all orders, for those desirons of test. Sag it. TERMS. In order that all may receive seed, we have reduced the price to 81.50 a package. Egyptian Ctrrn.—F. E. G. Lindsey. of Abing don, Va., hes the genuine" Egyptian Corn," which &great many farmers are delighted with. This tea new corn to this country, and has many, merits that do not appertain to other, breadstuff's.' It will ripen as far north as Bos ton, even when planted by the last of July. On rich land, It will yield 150 bushels to the acre, and weighs 6534 pounds to the bushel; and for domestic use it is unparalleled . It resembles flour, and contains 95 per. cent of nutriment matter. Mr. Lindsey refers the farmers - of this inaction of the Btate to Judge J. W. Stevens. of this place. We hope that our farmers will send for a few hundred packages, and give its trial. We are opposeilageo risking meney on Yankee tricks, but in t1b166 instance we have every rea son to believe that the Egyptian Corn is Just what it is represented to be by for. Lindsey.— Union, Rienzi, Miss., Feb. 23,1897. Egyptian am—Several months since we in formed our readers of the prolific, qualities of the Egyptian Corn. It surpasses all anticipa tions, and is just the, article needed in this country. To think that an acre of land can yield 150 bushels of goodwill, and particularly when two crops canYbe' gathered in a year, seems to be so exaggerated that it requires the many indorsementsOf the Firma in general, and the beat and most reliable men of Virginia to give it full belief. We have received some of the corn from Mr. Lindsey.
