Capt. Morris Schaff, the murderer of F.
Sheppard, a citizen of Mobile, under
circumstances of peculiar atrociousness,
whilst a prisoner under arrest, has been
sentenced by one of Pope's military courts

Senator Creamer, of the New York Legis
lature, a short time since received a little
present from the merchant prince, A. T.
Stewart. It consists of nothing less than a

lars. Mr. Creamer, while a member of As
sembly, had vindicated Mr. Stewart, when
assailed on the floor; and Mr. Stewart per
formed this trilling service by way of ac
knowledgment.
The Ordnance Committee have concluded
their investigation of the Amsterdam pro
jectile frauds. The testimony showed that
there had been very extensive frauds com
mitted during the war, which prominent
officers of the Government either knew of
or else were darned in their official duties.
A great amount of these projectiles proved
utterly useless,

Government. Witnesses have been sum
moned to give evidence in a case where it
is stated that a young man of Washington

its headquarters in this city, and against
which we recently warned the public:
