pottintougi. A Notable Marriage by Proxy. A San Francisco letter relates the fol lowing interegting occurrence : I be lieve there is no State in the Union Where a marriage dould be consummated by proxy ; but in Mexico the practice still exists, and the necessities of the i rt, times occasionally make it a matter f necessity. • The latest and most notab e case of this kind hasjust occurred a Mazatlan, the parties being a dashing , young American widow—Mrs. Maria Ann Bowman, nee McKenty, late of San Francisco—and the gallant and dis tinguished Gen. Ramon Corona, Com mander of the Army of the West. General Corona did as much as any living man to drive the French from Mexico, and he arrived at Queretaro just in time to beat back the last desper ate and almost successful sortie of the beleaguered Maximilian. Being in the field in the State of Joiisco at the head of his division, he, of course could not go north to meet his bride, and so the ceremony was pr. formed ; as I have said, by proxy, be being represented by Senor Sepulveda, Collector of Customs at Mazatlan. Mrs. Corona arrived by the Continental yes- Coly Mazatlan, in company with nel Banda, and will proceed by the next Panama steamer to Acapulco, to join her h usband atauadalajara. Corona is a rising man, and it is among the probabilities of an immediate future that this fair American girl may find herself the wife the President of Mexico, with her home in the far-famed halls of the Mon tezumas.
