That the Democracyof - Pennsylvania, by their representatives now assembled, hereby tender their acknowledgments and thanks to the Hon. George W. Woodward in his retirement from the position of Chief Justice of this Commonwealth, for tne pure, faithful and able manner in which he dis charged the duties of that exalted position. 12. That the candidate we this daypre sent to the people of Pennsylvania for a place on the Supreme Bench of the State, is in all respect worthy of the confidence and support of all who are in favor of an en lightened, faithful and impartial adminis tration of the laws. The report of the committee was adopted unanimously. A resolution was passed providing for the appointment of a Committee of Thirteen to inform Judge Sharawood of his nomi nation. The following gentlemen were named as the COMMITTEE TO WAIT UPON JUDGE SHAM WOOD: Hon. Richard Vaus, Philadelphia, chair man; R. A. Lamberton, Dauphin; W. D. Moore, Allegheny ; Robert E. Randall, Philadelphia; W. P. Brinton, Lancaster; John C. Barr, Allegheny; Hon. John D. Stiles, Lehigh; Hugh Montgomery, Ly coming; Dr. A. D. Markley ? Montgomery A. D. Boileau, Philadelphia; Charles J M'lntyre, Perry; 'Pierson Church, Craw ford; Wm. M. Platt, Wyoming. A resolution was passed, unanimous ly, thanking the President of the Conven tion (Hon. Charles E. Boyle,) for the faith ful manner in which he presided over the deliberations of the Convention. The Convention then adjourned sine die Heavy on Its Friends The Harrisburg Telegraph, which is in tensely Radical, thus refers to the murder ous assault which resulted in the killing of Colonel Riddle by Ovens and his friends.— The strictures of the "Hessian " journal, as it is called in Harrisburg, are eminently just, but the editor has barked up the wrong tree: The killing of Colonel Riddle, in one of the assessor's offices in the city of Philadel phia, is culling forth much comment on the character of some of the men now engaged in the public service. There is no denying the fact that in many parts of the country the Democracy have entrusted the public service to a class of men not only ignorant of the manner of discharging its duties, but by education, habit, and nature unfit for its responsibilities and gentlemanly courtesies. The assessor's office in which Colonel Riddle was assassinated was in the control of rowdies and drunkards, men in furiated with liquor, men bloated with the pride of temporary power, and, as the case proved, ready to kill any citizen who dared to engage in a contest for his rights. Surely such a condition of affairs is the legitimate fruit of that kind of partisanship which opposes the restriction of the liquor traffic, and which upholds the runt interest us a power worth courting i❑ politics. Ovens is a Radial' of the first water, us are all his friends who assisted in the mur der of Riddle. His tavern is a Radical ward headquarters, and he was elected as sessor of the ward by that party. At the last session of the Radical Legislature of our State, Ovens was elected sergeant-at arms of the House of Representatives, and is altogether a " big toad" in the Radical puddle. It is rather a singular fact that four out of live of the murders that have been committed in and about Philadelphia, within the lust two years, have been by persons who were affiliated with the party of "new moral ideas."— Daily News. REPARATOR CAPILLI. For restoring hair upon bald heads (from whatever cause it may have fallen out and forcing a growth of hair upon the face, t has no equal. It will force the beard to grow upon the smoothest face in from five to eight weeks, or hair upon bald heads in from two to three months. A few Ignorant practitioners have as. serted that there is nothing that will force or hasten the growth of the hair or beard. Their assertions are false, as thousands of living wit nesses (from their own experience) can bear witness. But many will say, how are we to distinguish the genuine from the spurious? It certainly is difficult, as nine-tenths of the dif ferent Preparations advertised for the hair and beard are entirely worthless, and you may have already thrown away large amounts in their purchase. To such we would say, try the Re orator Cappilli ; it will cost you nothing unless it fully comes up to our representations. If your Druggist does not keep it, send us one dollar and we will forward it, postpaid, together with a receipt for the money, which will be re turned you on application, providing entice satisfaction is not given. THE "VALLEY CHIEF" HAS BEEN GREAT LY IMPROVED AND STRENGTHENED SINCE LAST YEAR. One of them may be seen in the South-east corner of Centre Square, Lancaster City. As a Reaper and Self-Rake it has no equal In the field, and its claims to public attention are being appreciated by experience and trial. At the great trial of Reapers and Mowers and Self-Rakes at Auburn New York In July, 1868, the "VALLEY CHIEF" MOWER REAPER, and MARSH'S SELF-RAKE proved worthy of' the highest commendation and re ceived the favorable report of the Judges. As a Self-Rake, the Marsh Rake was the only one out of 20 Machines that was marked perfect (No. 40,) in cutting lodged wheat on the "Sheldon Lot," and but one other Machine in the list that was marked even to No. 38 in the test, all the rest being below that number.— This was regarded as the great test of the trial in Reaping and Raking. See pages 41, 42 and 43 of the Report. The entire Report may be seen at our office. We would here call particular attention to the AS YOU LIKE IT, or flexible Joint, ex tending down the front of the skirt; it is so constructed that the springs fold inwardly, but not outwardly, and readily yield to the slightest pressure, thus allowing theria to col lapse, so that the skirt occupies the smallest possible space whilst sitting, riding, or in pass ing through a crowd, and yet the moment the pressure is removed, the skirt resumes its original and beautilul shape. The novelty and utility of this contrivance need but be seen to be appreciated. But for want of space we might here publish thousands of extracts irorn letters, we are daily receiving, speaking in the highest praise of these Skirts. OUR CORSETS Are now so well known for their superior SHAPE, MATERIAL and WORKMANSHIP, that it is perhaps unnecessary for us to speak of them, further than to say that we have greatly enlarged our assortment of Styles, both of our own make and importation, and can now safely defy competition. • We ask but a trial and are sure of your future patronage.
