Hundreds of stimulants have been invented and sold.

only/Irk-The highest point of physical
health, and mental comfort, can be obtained if we
seek for it. No matter bow broken down one may
be with either Consumption, Asthma, Bronchitis, Liver
Complaint. Diseases of the Heart, Coughs, Colds, Nerv
ous Afflictions, or what is termed General Debility, a
remedy of a pleasant and certain character can always be
commanded. Let nobody say that any of these maladies,
in.their most appalling stages. cannot be cured, for they
can. Thousands In the United States can feelingly testify
to thii. truth, end offer themselves, and their experiences,
as evidences. With the spread of intelligence to all
quarters of the gl. be (thanks to steam and the magnetic
telegraph)comes a corresponding acknowledgment of truths
which were hitherto concealed beneath the rubbish of
traditionary ignorance. People no longer believe that they
must be doctored in the old style to get well. They now
feel assured that no case of physical-suffering (of course
excepting such cases as are the result of accidents and
direct injuries) is hopeless. Nothing has done more
towards establishing this beneficent fact than the scientific
preparation by De. 0 littrtvi Brows, No. 21 Grand street,

SELF-CONCEIT REBUKE D

Br THE BARD OP TOITTSt BALL. '
A Mr. Boaster had a wife, 1
• A loving, gentle creature;
But wrath, when she was deeply wronged,
. Would change the gentle feature!,
One winter night, while they reposed
In blankets. tucked np snugly, •
Old Boaster showed his self conceit)
In manner rough and ugly.
He said, " My wife. I've genius rue,
Bet you have none to mate It;
Though I my genius daily show
Yon don't appreciate it."
ff
Sbe answered: "Yon no genius sliPw,
In anything you do sir,
And, though you think so much of self,
I'm far too good for you, sir."
"No genius show I" exclaimed her; lord,
"Such talk should stop your breath, marm,
And, if you don't your words recall,
PIl freeze myself to death, marm'
"I'll leave my hed, and stand out•doors
Till I am stiffly frozen—
To ice shall turn the heart, in which
You've been the idol chosen." t
" You'll freeze," she said, " a good 'resolve I
I hope you'll not withdraw it;
And should your heart be turned to ice,
My tears will never thaw it."
Out-doors he rushed, to be, by frost, •
From all his woes delivered 8;
But courage. cooled, and changed his mind,
When he - awhile bad 'shivered.
He hurried in, and took his bed
With her, his "idol chosen ;"
She asked, " Why did you not stay out
Till you were fairly frozen?
He answered : "I am bound to freeze,
For we can't live together;
But, as 'tie very cold to-night,
wait for warmer weather!"
Next day, old Boaster, feeling style
In TOWER HALL was sneezing;
He bought some clothes. went home, and said,
Dear wife, don't mention freezlng.
"I'll dress in style; I'll own your worth,
And in your genius glory;
And only ask that you my dear,
Won't tell the freezing story."

The present critical state of European affairs will render
these publications unusually interesting during the forth
coming year. They will occupy a middle ground between
the hastily written news-items, crude speculations, and
flying rumors of the daily Journal, and the ponderous
dome of the future historian, written after the living
interest and excitement of the great political events of the
time shall have passed away. It is to threw Periodicals that
readers must look for the only really intelligible and' reli
able history of current events, and as such, in addition to
their well-established literary. scientific and theological
character, we urge them upon the consideration of the
reading public.
The receipt of .Aduanee Sheets from the. British publish.,
era gives additional value to these Re-prints, inasmuch as
they can now be placed In the hands of subscribers about,
as soon as the original editions.

FFARMERS, LOOK TO TOUR IN TER
EST !--Received the First Preiniums this Fall at our
County Fair. a Silver Medal on the Teleerab Fodder Cutter
and Coleman's Farm Chopping Mill. with Proseu'e improve
ment. I have received at my Agricultural Implement and
Seed Warehonee a large stock of the Telegraph Hay, Straw
and Cornfodder Cutters, four sizes, Nos. 1,2, 3 and 4, suit
able for large or small Farmers.
The Telegraph Hey, Straw and Cornfodder Cutter is
acknowledged to be the best Cutter now in use. We claim
a erent many advantages over any now - manufactured: Ist,
It has the down cut, all the strain is on the frame where
it should be; 2d, It is geared on both sides. and is not lia
ble to wear or get out of repair; Bd, The Nos. 1 and 2 are
double geared, and can be changed to cut different lengths;
the shortest cut is 7 pieces to one inch for Cornfodder; in
dee minutes they ran be changed to cut scant 34 inch for
Hay or Straw. The band-wheel can (on • the No. 2) be
changed on either side of the Cutter to suit the power.—
The greatest advantage we claim is the power. We can do
as much work with one horse as those ran (that first cut,
then crush) with three.
Our cutter will cut shorter and make better feed, than
those those that first. cut, then crush. We all know the
more power it requires to drive a Cutter the sooner it will
get out of repair. We will give a few references to Farmers
wanting Cutters this fall: John Saner, Christian Hess,
Abm. M. Hem, Benjamin Mylin, near Willow Street, Chris

near Concord. I could give several hundred names more
if necessary.
I have also received a full supply of Coleman's Premium
Farm Chopping 51111 with Proaen's improvement. There
are a great
. many of our Mills now in use In this county,
and all give very good satisfaction. The Mill is very mach
luiproved over those sold two years ago. The grinding
pelts are 100 per cent, harder. There is a Mlll running in
Philadelphia which has ground from 15.000 to 20,000 bush
els of grain, and is running yet without having any repairs
done to It. We will give a few references for our Mills:

We warrant our Mills and Cutters to give satisfaction,

I beg leave to call the attention., of..the citizens of the
United States to the above Wittss and - Idqvoas, imported
by I:JDOLPHO WOLFE, of New York, whose name is familiar
in every pelt of this country for the purity of hie Cele

me, speaking of the purity of his Wince and LIQUORS,
says: "I will stake my reputation as a.maa, my standing
as a merchant of thirty years' residence in the City of
New York, that n all the BRANDY and Wtses which I bottle
are pure as imported, and of the best quality, and can be

• Read the following from the New York Courier:
ENORMOUS BUSINESS POE ONE NEW YORK MERCHANT.—
We are happy to inform our fellow-citizens that there is
one place in our city where the physician, apothecary, and
country. merchant, can go and purchase pure Wines and
Liquors, as pure as. imported, and of the beat quality,r—
We do not intend to give an elaborate description of this
merchant's extensive business, although It will well repay
any stranger or citizen to.visit Unoteno Wotaz's exten
sive warehouse, Nos. 18; 20 and 22, Beaver street, and Noe.
17, 19 and 21. Marketfield street. HID stock of Schnapps
on hand ready for shipment could not have beet:Class than
thirty thousand cares; the Brandy, some ten thousand
eases—Tintage - of 1838 to 1858; and ten thousand cases of
Madam, Sherry and Port .Wine, Scotch and Irish Whis
key, Jamaica and St. Croix Rum, some very old and equal
to any in this country. He also had three large cellars,
filled with Brandy, Wit* de., in' casks, under Custom
House key, ready for bottling. Mn Woures sales of '
Schnapps hurt year amounted to one' hundred end 'eighty
thousand dozen, and we hope In less than two years he
may be equally successful with his Brandies and Wines.
His business merits the patronage of every lover of his
species. Private families who wish pure :Wines and
Liquors for medical use should send their orders direct to
Mr. Wars, until every Apothecary in the land - make up
their minds to discard the poisonous stuff from their
shelves,, and replace it with Wozn' plate Wi.msa and
LIQUORS.
We understand Mr. Worm, for the - accommodation of
small dealers in - the country, pate tnp assorted cases of
Wines and Liquors. Such a man, and such a merchant,
should be =stained against his tens of thousands - of opts>
nerds in the United States, who seal nothing but imita
tions, ruinous alike to human health anditiappiness.

pervades the whole, body, and may burst : out
in disease on any part of it. No organ.is free
from its attacks, nor is there one which it may
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living,. dis
ordered or unhealthy food,, impure air. filth
and filthy habits, the *pressing vices,, and,
above all, by the venereal infection. :Mutt

unto the third and fourth generation ;" indeed,
it seems to be 'the rod of Him who, says. "I
will visit the iniquities of the fathers Upon
their children."
Its effects commence by deposition Ercim the
blood of corrupt or ulcerffus matter, which, in
the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed
tubercles ; 'in the glands, swellings ; and on
the surface, ergitions or sores. This' foul :cor

the energies of life, so that 'scrofulous constitu
tions not only suffer from scrofulous• corn
plaints, but they have far less power to with
stand' the attacks of other &Asses ; ' cense-
quently, vast numbers perish by- disorders
which, although not scrofulous in their nature,
are still rendered fatal by this taint •intthe
system. Most of the consumption which; de
cimates the human family has its origin directly
in this scrofulous contamination;'and , many
destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, Attain,
and, indeed,. of all the organs, arise, from or
are aggravated by the same cause.
One qUartes of all our people are scrofainui;
theiipersons are invaded by. this hiiking in
fection, and their health is undermined tiy it.
To cleanse it from the system we must redavate
the blood by an alterative medicine,. and in
vigorate it by healthy food and. exercise.
Such a medicine we supply in '
