and Harrisburg Sentinel that a straight out
Douglas electoral ticket is to be announced in
a day or two. We presume it is so, and that
this is to be done in order to aid the Black
Republicans in carrying the State, for we
know of no other possible effect such a
movement, if it enlists any goodly number of
the voters, can have. And this is to be done
in the race of an almost unanimous public
sentiment against such a such a suicidal policy;
for, of about seventy-five Democratic papers
in the State, not less than seventy (embracing
those for DOUGLAS as well SS BRECSINRIDGE,)
have given in their adhesion to the Cresson
Compromise, and are warmly advocating the
support of the regular electoral ticket formed
by the Reading Convention.
Speaking of this straight out movement,
the Harrisburg Patriot remarks:
"Although the object of this Committee is
clearly to defeat the Democratic party by
promoting division, they will fail in accom
plishing their purpose. The most probable
effect of a straight out ticket will be to divert
a few thousand votes in the State that would
otherwisego
ever directly to Lincoln. The
opinions of the great mass of the Democrats
of Pennsylvania are resolutely fixed in favor
of union, as offering the only prospect of
arresting Democratic defeat ; and they are too
wide a*alte to be gulled by such a transparent
scheme as this. The cause of union for the
sake of the union is growing and strengthen
ing every day, sweeping away the barriers
that bogus committees and thimble-rigging '
politicians interpose to stay the mighty current.
The time has passed when a handful of rest
less
politicians can issue commands from
closed rooms to thwart the wishes of a great
party. The people laugh at their silly mach
inations. The united Democracy of Pennsyl
vania will place its iron heel upon their plot
and crush it. The mailed arm of the party
will smite it with the blow of destruction."

Read the following from the New York Courier:
ENoR3IoUs BUSINESS FOR ONE NEW TORE MERCHANT.—
We are happy to inform our fellow-citizens that there is
one place in our city where the physician, apothecary, and
country merchant, can go and purchase pure Wines and
Liquors, as pure as imported, and of the best quality.—
We do not intend to give an elaborate description of this
merchant's extensive business. although it will well repay
any stranger or citizen to visit UDOLPHO WOLER'S eXten
aloe warehouse, Nos. IS, 20 and 22, B-aver street, and Nov.
17. 19 and 21, Markethold street. His stock of Schnapps
on hand ready for shipment could not have been less than
thirty thousand en-es; the Brandy, some ten thousand
rases—Vintage of 1836 to 1866; and ten thousand cases of
Madeira, Sherry and Port Wine, Scotch and Irish Whis
key, Jamaica and St. Croix Rum, some very old and equal
to any in this country. He also had three large cellars,
filled with Brandy, Wine. Sm., in casks, under Custom
House key, ready fir bottling. Mr Woum's sales of
Schnapps lust year amounted to one hundred and eighty
thousand dozen, and we hope in less than two yeats ho
may be equally successful' with his Brandies and Wines.
His business merits the patronage of every lover of his
species. Private families who wish pure Wines and
Liquors for medical use should send their orders direct to
Mr. Womm, until every Apothecary In the land make up
their minds to discard the poisonous stuff from their
shelves, and replace it with WOLFS'S pure WINES and
LIQUORS.
We understand Mr. Wotss, for the accommodation of
small dealers in the country, puts up assorted cases of
\Vines and Liquors. Such a man, and such a merchant,
should he sustained against his tens of thousands of oppo
nents In the United States, who sell nothing but imito.
Lions, ruinous alike to human health and happiness.

A 1110SQIIITO BITE
A suitor bold, for many years
A maiden fair had wooed ;
But could not win a kind response,
Though earnestly he sued.
She took his gifts, with grateful smile,
His willing hands to bless;
But, still, her rosy lips withheld
The sighed—for, little, yes.
At last, one night, when hope deferred
ills heart with hoe did fill,
He said, "Dear Mary, be my wife;"
And she replied, "I will."
You will I" he cried; and Mary's lips
He kissed, with wild delight,
Then said, "My darling, tell me why
You yield your heart to-night?"
The maiden, with a smile, replied:
"Last night, while In my bed,
A big mosquito, Charley dear,
Alighted on my heed.
"He bit me, Charles, upon the blimp
Where generous feelings dwell—
The organ of Benevolence
He caused to badly swell.
now so large, that, with a beset
Which kind emotions cheer,
I could not, when you asked my hand
Refuse it, Charley dear."
Fond kisses sealed the vows which gave
The heart which Charley sought ;
To Tower Hall he rushed, and there
A wedding suit he bought.
He told his tale , and said, The Bard
May now a song indite,
And show what great results have flowed
From one effective bite."

letter from President Smith, of Wesleyan UnireTsity: •
MIDDLETOWN, Conn., Fob 28,1859.
Stili W. FOWLE & CO.—Gentlemou:—l first
made use of the Oxygenated Bitters Rom sown, .or
eight years since. Having suffered for twenty years
front a form of dyspepsia, which was attended with a
nervous headarlio, on an average of not less than ono
day in a week - , I was induced, by:the unpretending rec
ommendation of Dr. Green, " to try ono bottle, and if
no benefit was received to discontinue the use." .
The use of one bottle warranted a further trial, to the
extentuf some three or four, with a careful observance
of the accompanying directions. The- result. was, as
almost entire relief from the usual dyspeptic symptoms
and their depressing, painful consequences. I believe
these Bitters produced an entire change in the habits of
my system, and upon the active energies of the digestive

Ayer's Sarsaparilla
A compound remedy, in which we have la
bored to produce the most effectual alterative
that can be made. It is a concentrated extract,
of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with other
substances of still greater alterative power as
to afford an effective antidote for the diseases
Sarsaparilla is reputed to CHI , . It t, istlicved
that such a remedy is wanted by those who
suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one
which will accomplish their cure must prove
of immense service to this lame class of our
afflicted fellow-citizens. How completely this
compound will do it has been proven by exper
iment on many of the worst cases to Le found
of the following complaints:—
SCROFULA. AND SCROFULOUS COMPLAINTS,
ERUPTIONS AND ERUPTIVE DISEA ULcEtts,
PIMPLES, BLOTCHES, TUMORS, Seer RHEUM,
SCALD HEAD, SYPHILIS AND SyPHILITIC AF
FECTIONS, MERCURIAL DISEASE, Ditops - E, NEU%
RALGIA. OR TIC DOULOUREUN, DEBILITY, DYS
PEPSIA AND INDIGESTION, ERYsIPLIAS, BOSE
OR ST. ANTHONY ' S Pant, and ind-eel the whole
class of complaints arising fr,:n IMPURITY OF
THE BLOOD.

This compound will be found a great pro
moter of health, when taken in the spring, to
expel the foul humors which fester in the
blood at that season of the year. By the time
ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders
are nipped in the bud. Multitudes can, by
the aid if this remedy, spare themselves from
the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous
sores, through which the system will strive to
rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do
this through the natural channels of the body
by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions,
or sores ; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the veins; cleanse it
whenever it is foul, and your feelings - edll tell
you when. Even where no particular disorder
is felt, people enjoy better health, and live
longer, for cleansing the blood. Keep the
blood healthy, and all is well; but with this
pabulum of life disordered, there can be no
lasting health. Sooner or later something
must go wrong, and the great machinery of
life is disordered or overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the
reputation, of accomplishing these ends. But
the world has been egregiously deceived by
preparations of it, partly because the drug
alone has not all the virtue that is claimed.
for it, but more because many preparations,
pretending to be concentrated extracts of it,
contain hut little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla,
or any thing else.
During late years the public have been mis
led by large bottles, pretending to give a quart
of Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon the sick, for
they not only contain little, if any, Sarsapa
rilla, but often no curative properties whatev
er. Hence,
bitter and painful disappointment
has followed the use of the various extracts of
Sarsaparilla which flood the market, until the
name itself is justly despised, and has become
synonymous with imposition and cheat. Still
we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend.
to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the
name from the load of obloquy which rests
upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresistible
by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend
ed to cure. In order to secure their complete
eradication from the system, the remedy should
be judiciously taken according to directions on
the bottle.
