LINDSEY A LEMON, Proprietors, Jan 11 6m 52] HoTlldaysburg, Blair r«.. Pa Distiller 9 Scrofula, or King’s Evil, Distiller 10 is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by. which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. What ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con stitution, descending “from parents to children unto the third and fourth generationindeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, “ I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children.” Its effects commence by deposition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu tions not only suffer from scrofulous com plaints, but they have far less power to with stand the attacks of other diseases; conse quently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in,their nature, are still' rendered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which de cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous; their persons are invaded by this lurking in fection, and their health is undermined by it. To cleanse it from the system we must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and in vigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply in AYER’S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, Distiller 10 Brewer 8 “ 6 “ 8 “ 8 Brewer 10 Distiller 9 the effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com bined from’the most active remedials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed for the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affec tions which arise from it, such as Eruptive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony’s Fire, Rose, or Erysipelas, Pimples, Pustules, Blotches, Blains and Boils, Tumors, Tetter and Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphilitic and'MERCURiAL Dis eases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia!; Debility, and, indeed, all Complaints arising from Vitia % ted or Impure Blood. The popular belief in ‘ ‘ impurity of the blood ” is -founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue' of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound health is impossible in contaminated constitutions. one Alley, Ayer’s Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIO, are so composed that disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate every portion of the human organ ism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the every-day complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the following complaints: Costive ness, Heartburn, Headache arisingfrom disordered Stomach, Nausea, Indigestion, Pain in and Morbid Inaction of the Bowels , Flatulency , Loss of Appe tite, Jaundice , and other kindred complaints, arising from a low state of the body or obstruction of its functions. Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, FOE THE RAPID CUEE OF Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consump tion, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in advanced; stages of the disease* So 'wide is the field of its usefulness and so nu merous are the cases of its cures, that almost every section of' country abounds in persons pub licly known, who have been restored from alarming ana even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape observation, and where its virtues are known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been discarded, this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the afflicted they can never forget, and pro duced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten. The greatest medical discov ery OF THE AGE.—Dr. KzNjftDT, of Roxbnry, haa discovered. In one of our common pasture weeds, a remedy that cures EVERY K 1 y D OF HUMOR. from the worst Scrofula down to a common pimple. He has tried it in over 1100 cases, and never (ailed except in two cases, (both thunder humor.) Ho has nowin his possession over two hundred Certificates of its virtue, all within twenty miles of Boston. . Two bottles are warranted to cure a nursing sore mouth One to three bottles will cure the worst kind of Pimples on the face. Two to three bottles will clear the system of Biles. Two bottles are warranted to cure the worst canker In the mouth or stomach. Throe to five bottles are warranted tocure the worst case of Erysipelas. One or two bottles are warranted to cure all humor n the Eyes. Two bottles are warranted to cure 'running of the ears and blotches among the hair. Four to six bottles are warranted to cure corrupt and running ulcers. One bottle will care scaly eruption of the skin. Two to three bottles are warranted to onre the worst cases of ringworm. , Two to three bottles are warranted to care the most des perate case of rheumatism. Three to four bottles are warranted to cure the salt rheum. Five to eight bottles will gure the worst case of sorofnla A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle, and perfect cure is warranted when the above quantity ia Header, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. I know the effect of it in every case.— So sure as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this cure humor. I never sold a bottle of it, but that sold another; after a trial it always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appear surprising; first, that it grows in our pastures, in some places quite plentiful, and yet its valne has never been known until I discovered it in 1846—second, that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of the sodden rise, and great popularity of the discovery, I will state that in April, 1853, I peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—in April, 1854,1 sold over one thousand bottles per day of It. , Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been lu the business twenty and thirty years, say that, nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like It. There la a . universal praise of it from all quarters. In my own practice I always kept It strictly for humors —but since its introduction as a general family medicine, great and wonderful virtues have been found in it that I never suspected. Several cases of eplleptio fits—a disease which was always considered incurable, nave been cured by a few botilre. — 0, what a mercy if it prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are but few who have seen.more of It than I have. I know of-several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged peo ple, cured by It. For the various diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, pain in the side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly In diseases of the Kidneys, Ac., the discovery has done more&bod than any medicine ever known. No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best you get and • nough of it. Directions rou Use. —Adults one table spoonful per day —Cblidren over ten years dessert spoonful.
