REPORT OF THE COUNTY AUDITORS.
We, the undersigned Auditors of Lancaster County,
do certify that we have carefully examined the forego
ing accountof Charles M. Howell, Esq., Treasurer of
said county, and have compared his vouchers with the
same, and find there is a balance in his hands of six
teen ihorisand seven hundred and twenty-four dollars
and tiftymine cents, ($ 1 6.724.59) for which sum he Mtn
shown Us the receipt of Daniel Herr, (Pequea) the pre
sent Treasurer.
We have examined the account of Hugh 8. GarmEsq.,
Treasurer of the Board of Prison Inspectors, and find it
correct, showing a balance due the Board, on the 4th
day of January, 1848, of one hundred and twenty-five
dollars and eighty-seven cents, ($125.87.)
We have also examined the account of William Gor
recht, Esq.. Treasurer of the Poor and House of Employ
ment of Lancaster county and find a balance in his
bands, on the first day of January, 1858, of one thou
rand. one hundred and y sixelollare and twenty
seven cents, ($1.126.27 )
The liabilities of the county for individual loans, at
the present time, at 5 p.r .11111111, per annum, 111.1101111 t
to $130000; deducting the above amount of funds in
the County Tr...roes bands. ($10,724.59) which sum
is applicabie to the discharge of the liabilities, would
show au indebtedness of 81127.000 The amount of
outstanding taxes is $11,41872.

Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the
vicinity of Boston. I know the effect of It in every case.—
So sure as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this cure
humor. I never sold a bottle of it, but that sold another;
after a trial it always speaks for Itself. There are two
things about this herb that appear surprising; first, that
it grows in our pastures, in some places quite plentiful.
and yet Its value has never been known until I discovered
it in 1818—second, that it should cure all kinds of humor.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise, and great
popularitN of the discovery, I will stare that in April, lesl,
I peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—in April,
1854, I sold over one thousand 'bottles per day of It.
Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been in the
business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the
annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There 1.9

In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors

The inhalation of ammonia will rouse the system when
fainting or apparently dead. The odor of many of the

used to escape taking Quinine, contained the Drug Itself!
This remedy, (known as -Smith's Tonic,") would invert-

return with renewed ' , lgor. This one circumstance I deem

Three persons took your "Cure," all of which were casett
of"Quotidianlntermittent Fever." of mnay weeks standing
They bad tried Qulniue, and other remedies, occasionally
missing a chill, but it was, (as in all such cases,) slowly
wearing them out, and laying the foundation for other and
severer maladies. I did succeed in effecting a radical cure
of all three of thee. cases with your remedy, and they have
,not had a chill mace. In oil three of these cases the
"Smith's Tonic" had been need, and would, as before sta
ted, break the chill, but after a period or two had elapsed
would return.
I think there will be no difficulty now in giving to your
"Cure" the advantage ground of any other remedy now in
