Some time last winter, a family by the name of Joyce—numbering 4 or f —was murdered on Brier Creek, in Kentucky, and suspicion fell upon some negroes—one of whom turned State’s evidence.. The excitement in that vicinity was so great against the negroes that it was deemed ad visible to remove the prisoners to Louisville for trial? Their trial eame off a few days since, and as a negro’s testimony could not be admitted, the murderers • were acquitted. An immense mobJ>fcitizens repaired to the jail and demanded the prisoners, but their request was refused, when they obtained a cannon, charged it with shot, boulders, iron and naQs, and planted it in front of the jail, and then com menced to tear down the walls of the prison. Several shots were fired, and the Mayor and others wero seriously Injured from pistol shots, stones and bricks. Pndiog that the mob was determined to demolish the prison, three of the negroes were delivered np—one on going out of the jail drew a ra zor that he had in his pocket and/mt his own throat from ear to ear; the other two were seized, and hnog np in the Court Yard, when the-mob returned to the jail and-dsman . ded the fourth negro—the one that turned State’s evidence —who was handed over, and hung by the side of the oth ers. Three were hung and one cut his own throat. These 'wretches first murdered the Joyce family and then burnt the honso. One child they did not kill, but burnt it alive in the house. Hay baa lately become so scarce in this vicinity, and commands sach a high price, that shippers are sending it here for sale from all parts of ’the country. A few days since 100 bales were received here from Charleston, S. C., and sold at $4O per ton, which, after paying freight real, ised the shippers a fair profit. > Thalberg’s grand ccneorts contnence this oveni'ig—(not last Monday as stated in a previous letter) —and tickets bare already been sold for the whole series. It has without tba ordinary appliance used for such, purposes, won Its way, and been heartily .welcom ed to most of the cities and towns in the United States the Canadas, aud the West India Islands. Nor is this result surprising, when it is remembered that its popularity is based upon its merits, solely as established by actual tests. That this preparation will actually RESTORE GRAY HAIR TO ITS NATURAL COLOR, produce a luxuriant growth upon the hnads of the bald, prevent the hair from falling off, and when used as a toilet article, produce a continual flow of the natural fluids, and thus render the hair soft, glossy and wavy, destroy diseases of tho scalp, and expel dandruff, the certificates of distinguished gentlemen and ladies, in every part of tho country who have tried It, and therefore speak what they know, most fully attest. Milford, Worcester Co., Maas., Nov. 13th, 1855. Prof. 0. J. Wood—Dear Sir; I take pleasure in bearing voluntary testimony to the magic effects of your wonderful Hair Restorative. As far back as 1836 my hair commenced falling off, until the top of my scalp became bald and smooth os glass, and it has continued to fall for a great many years, notwithstanding 1 have used many celebratod preparations for its restoration. Seeing your advertisement, I was in duced to give your article a trial, and to my utter astonish ment, I found after.a few applications that my hair became firmly set and assumed a very glossy and beautiful appear-, ance; and, by the time I had used a quart bottle full, my bald head was covered over with a young and vigrrous growth of hair, which is now from one to two inches in length, and growing very fast. Yours truly, _ Henry Goodrich. From the Boston Herald. Something WoarH Knowing!— By using Professor Wood’s Hair Restorative, gray Hair can be permanently restored to taorlginal color. The subjoinedcertificate was received from Johnson k Stone, Gardener, Me., und is but one of the many instances that are daily coming to our knowledge of its wonderful effects. It is lio longer problematic, hut a self-evident truth, as hundreds can testify. - Gardiner, Me., June 22d, 1855. Mr. H. Dyes —Dear Sir: I have used two bottles of Prof. Wood’s Hair Restorative, and can truly say itis the great est discovery of the age for restoring and changing tho Ilair. Before using it I was a man of soveuty. My hair has now attained its original color. You can recommend it to the world without tho least fear, as my case was one of the worst kind. Yours, respectfully. I have used Prof. 0. J. Wood’s Hair Restorative, and have admired its wonderful effect. My hair was becoming, as I thought, prematurely gray, but by the use of his Restora tive it has resumed Its original color, und I have no doubt, permanently so. FARMERS of Lancaster County, who are in want of & strong, well made, reliable REAPING and MOWING MACHINE, will find it greatly to their Interest to get one ATKINS’ SELF-RAKING REAPER and MOWER. These Machines have met with unprecedented success, and given full satisfaction to those using them; and the pro prietor has spared neither pains nor expense in adding im provements that make them decidedly the most desirable article in this country. With the improvements now made they are the best combined Reaper and Mower in use, har ing a knife that does not choke; and while they are a great labor saver, are also a great Grain-saver, relieving one of the intolerable labor of Raking, and doing it so much bet ter as to save one or two hands in binding. They can be adapted to cut all kinds of Grain or Grass, and are very light of Draft. Nothing but the very best materials are used, in their construction, and each machine is driven by steam-power before leaving the Shop to see that every thing is right. We have a large number of recommendations from Far mers who have them in use; and knowing the ms chines to act as they are recommended, have no hesitation in warranting them to give entire satisfaction.
