DAVE YOU TRIED IT.—This important question should
be asked every invalid who Is suffering from pulmonary
troubles In this fickle climate. have you tried WI LBOICS
COMPOUND OF COD LIVER OIL AND LIME? It will
not nauseate like the plain Oil. but is on the contrary,
pleasant to the taste; moreover the Phosphate of Lime is.
In this combination, a most remarkable aid to the healing
properties of the pure Cod Liver Oil. as the following c.v.
of sates (selected from a host of like great acknowledg.
merits) will amply show. No person should neglect for a
single hour a cough, or any affection of the lungs, lest the
most serious consequences follow. Dr. Wilhor 5 prepara
tion is both simple, and sure in all ordinary cases, and
has performed some surprising cures in decided consump
lion, where other medical aid has failed :
Dr. Wilbur :—During nearly the whole of the past win

I had suffered . seriously with a cough, which so irrita
ted my lungs, that my physician frankly admitted his fear
of consumption's following this trouble as the Spring
weather set in. Medicine seemed to afford me little relief
until I tried your preparation of Cod Liver Oil and Lime.
The effect I am forced by facts to admit, was almost magi
cal, and I have the pleasure of saying at this writing. (May

With thanks to you for your valuable discovery, I eordi.

Reader, I peddled over a thousaid bottles of this In the
vicinity of Boston. I know the effect of it in every case.—
So sure as water will extinguish fee, so sure will this
cure humor. I never sold a bottle of It, but that sold an
other; after a trial it always speak for itself. There are
too things about this herb that appear to me surprising;
first that it grows in our pastures, in some places quite
plentiful, and yet Its value has never been known until I
discovered it ln 1846—second that It should cure all kinds
CL moor.
In order to give some Idea of the sudden rise, and.grcat
popularity of the discovery. I will slate that In aPrilt

- E1A.8.111 LANDS FOR. SALE.—TIIE ILLINOIS
.12 CENTRAL RAILROAD COMPANY is now prepared to
cell over TWO MILLION 01 ACRES OF lARMINII LANDS,
to Tracts of 40 A. CRUS: and upward, an long , avlita
and at low rates of interest.
These lands were grunted by the Government, to aid in
the construction of this Railroad, and include some of the
ichest and inset fertile Prairies in the State, interspersed
bore and there with magnificent groves of oak and other
timber. The Road extends front Chicago, on the North
Ea,t, to Cairo at the South, and front thence to Galena and
leunleith, in the North West extreme of the State, and as
all the lands lie within fifteen miles on each side of this
Itoad, randy :end cheap means are afforded by_ it for trans.
porting the products of the lands to any of those points nod
from thence to Eastern and Southern markets. Moreover,
the rapid growth of flourishing towns and villages along
the line, and the great increase in population by immigra
tion, etc.. afford a substantial and growing home demand
for farm produce.
The is a dark, rich mould, from one to five feet in
depth, is gently rolling and peculiarly lilted for gracing
cattle and sheep. or the cultivation of wheat. Indian
corn, etc.
Economy in cultivating and great productiv eneas are the
wcll known characteristic. of Illinois land. Trees are not
required to be cut down, stumps grubbed, or stones picked
off, as IS generally the case in cultivating nets land in the
elder Mates. The first crop of Indian corn, planted ou the
newly broken 6.1, I.lllllly repays the cost of plowing and
fencing. . .
Wheat sown ou the new turned soil is sure to yield very
large profits. A man with a plow and two yoke of oxen
will break one and a half to two acres per day. Contracts
can be made fur breaking, ready for corn ur wheat, at from
ic.! to 3,5 U per acre. By judicious management, the land
may be plowed and fenced the tirst. and under a high state
of cultivation the second year.
Corn, grain, cattle, etc., will be forwarded at reasonable
rates to Chicago, for the Eastern market, awl to Cairo fur
the Southern. The larger yield on the cheap lauds of 111 -
Oohs over the high priced lands in the Eastern and Middle
States, Is known to be much more than sufficient to pay
the difference of transportatinuPo the Eastern market.
Bituminotis coal is mined at several points along the
Road, and is a cheap and desirable fuel. It can be delivered
at several points along the Road ut SI,LO to 4.05 per ton.
'Peed can be had at the same rates per curd.
Those who think of settling in lowa or Minnesota, should
bear iu mind, that lands there, of any value, along the wa
ter courses and for many miles inland, have been disposed
of,—that ter those located in the interior, there are no con
veniences for transporting the produce to market, Railroads
nut having been introduced there. That to send the pro.
duce of these lauds, one or two hundred utiles by wagon to
market, would cost much more than the expense of culti
vating therm and hence, Government lands thus situated, at
$1.23 per acre, are nut SO good investments as the laud of
this company at the prices fixed.
The same remarks hold good in relation to the lands in
Banana and Nebraska, fur although vacant lands may be
found near., the water courses, 'the distance to market is
tar greater, and every hundred miles the produce of those
lands are carried either in wagons, or interrupted water
communications, increases the expenses of transportation,
which must be borne by the settlers, in the reduced price of
their products; and to that t. , xtent precisely are the incomes
from their farms, and of coarse on their investments, an
nually awl every year reduced.
The great fertility of the lands now uttered for sale by this
company, and their consequent yield over these of the Eas
tern and Midi* States, is much More than sufficient to pay
the dilference•iu the cost of transportation, especially iu
view of the facilities furnished by the Rued, and attires
with which it connects, the operations of which are not in
terrupted by the low water of Sialittler, or the frost of win
try.
PRICE AND TERMS OF PAYMENT.—The price will va
ry rem $5 to according to location, etc. Contracts Wr
Deeds may be made during the year, 1550, stipulating the
purchase money to be paid in live annual instalments. The
tirst to become clue in hive years from the date of contract,
and the others annually thereafter. T e last payment will
become due at the end of the sixth year from the date of the
contract.
Interest will he charged at only thre e per cent. per an
num. As a security to the performance of the contract,
the lire two years' interest must ho paid in advance, and it
must be understood that at leant 011 r tenth of the land pur
clia.sed shall'yearly he brought under cultivation. Twenty
per cent. from the credit price will he deducted fur cash.—
The Company's construction bonds will he received as each.
Ready learned Farm Buildings, which can be Set Up in a
few days, can be obtained from responsible persons.
They will ho Ig feet by 20 feet, divided into one living and
three bed rooms, and will cost complete set up on ground
chosen anywhere along the Road, $l5O in cash. exclusive of
transportation. Larger buildings may be contracted for at
proportionate rates. The Company will forward all the ma
terials for such buildings over their road promptly.
Special arrangements with dealers can be made to supple
those purchasing the Company's lands with fencing mate
rials, agricultural tools, and an outfit of prov Lions in any
quantity, at the lowest wholesale prices.
It is believed that the price, long credit, and low rate a I
interest, charged fur these lands, will enable a roan with o
tow hundred dollars in cash and ordinary industry, to make
himself independent before all the purchase money becomes
due. In the Ineall time, the rapid settlement of the omit
try Will probably have increased their value four Of fiVe fold.
When required an expericenced person will Accompany ap
plicants, to give information anti aid in selecting lauds.

foaming, signed by respectable and well.known flamers liv

abounds. This is both an evidence of the quality of the
soil and a great fertilizer. At St. Mary's It sells at from
ten to twelve cents a bushel, burnt.
The timber is of great value, and consists of Cherry, Ash
Chesnut, Pine, Oak and Hemlock, all of primeval growth'
of great size, and towering from eighty to a hundred and
twenty feet • That which the stockholders do not
want will be sold to thetimbermerchants, with conditions
to cut It in a certain time. This will clear the land , and
bring a large revenue into the treasury, which will go to
the reduction of the price of the farms.
This explains its agricultural resources. But there' is
another consideration of equal, if not greater, importance.
The land is one great bed of coal. Upon this property it is
literally inexhaustible. By taking a glance at the latest
map, first at this locality, and then over the State, It veil
be found to possess the grandest feature of prosperity,
provement, and almost immediate development. It is su
pericir to any other. It is the only place having the great
concentration of railroads, by which New York, the Lakes,
Philadelphia and Pittsburg are at its doors. There is no
coal in New York, and on account of its northernly situa
tion, it possesses the advantages of nearness. This Is des
tined to become the Pottsville of that portion of the State.
The prospect in the future for this place exceeds any that
Pottsville ever had; and there, land which a few years ego
was selling at five and ten dollars an acre, when the rail
road opened its mines sold for from two to five hundred
dollars an acre. These are facts. Those who are ignorant,
let them make inquiry. Improvement is still progressing.
So arrive at the truth. Judge the future by theoast, and
then what will this laud be? It is proper that reason
should give the answer,
The Sunbury and Erie Railroad, of which Gov. Bigler
is President, and which connects this land with the Lakes
and Philadelphia, and the Allegheny Valley Railroad, of
which Gov. Johnson is President. connecting this land
with Pittsburg, are in rapid course of completion, and up
on a great extent the locomotives are running. The reflec
tions which suggest themselves upon this subject are
these—lt takes two hundred weeks to pay for the farms.
They will be distributed when they are half paid for. By
that time the railroads will be finished. That will be
early enough for all practical purposes. Tile advantage
of buying it before their completion is evident. When
that Is done property will go up ono hundred per cent--
Speculation in coal would at once run it up to such a
price us would make it imposatbie to obtain for agricultur
al purposes. We now get it without paying the then Im
proved price, and the stockholders will enjoy the rise.
A tract of about two thousand acres will be laid off at
once, and ready by next Spring, in order that persons who
wish to farm immediately can do so.
Friends and relatives, as well as those having more than
one share can have their farms together.
An Improvement department will also be connected
with the company. By this means, in order to accom
date those who are unable to give their personal attention
to fencing or preparation, or desire to rent their properties
out instead of residing there, arrangements van he made to
place each farm in complete order, so as to be ready fin.
cultivation. After the farms have been all sold. stock
holders can have manure furnished, houses built and
other work done upon credit, they securing the payment
to t h e company within a reasonable time,so that a man in
the first place receives a farm at the lowest possible price,
and then is afforded every assistance in placing it Under
crops.
These embrace the principal features, and an excellent
opportunity is now offeren tbr a man to obtain a home br
himself, his wife and children, either at the present or
time to come. Many business men. Mechanics. and work
ingmen upon farms, who save several dollars a mouth. can,
by thus uniting together, become freeholders, whilst they
scarcely, miss the outlay, and at less expense than the
annual cost of tobacco or the most trifling luxuries. A
saving and purchase of thls kind eat nothing, and con
stantly increase In value, In case of sickness or misfor
tune by which he Is thrown out of employment, he has a
home to go to, where be can always make a good living.—
The title Is unexceptionably good—one of the oldest in
the State, being the Holland Title. Those who desire
farms, will please address, personally or by letter (enclosing
first instalment.) to Stunuel W. Cattell, at the Office of the
Company. No. 135 Walnut St rent, between Fourth and Fifth
