• .
Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this In the
vicinity of Ilostou. 1 know the effect of It in every case.—
do sure as water will extinguish tire, so suro will this
cure humor. 1 never sold a bottle of it, but that sold en.
other; atter a trial it always speak for itself. There are
two things about this herb that" appear to me surprising;
fast that Sit grows in our pastures, in some places quite
plentiful, and yet its value has never been known until I
discovered It lu 1846—second that It should cure all kinds
of humor.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise, and great
popularity of the discovery. I will state that In April,
ihk3. I peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—ln
April, IS.S4, I sold over one thousand bottles per day of It
Some of the wholesale Druggirts who have been In the
business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the
annals of patent medicines was ever like It. There is a
universal praise of It from all quarters.
In my own practice I always kept It strictly for humors
—but since Its Introduction as a general family medicine
great and ivouderful virtues haire been found in it that I
never suspected.
Several cases of epileptic Ste—a disease which was al
ways considered incurable, have been cured by a few bot
tles. 0, what aonerey if it prove effectual iu all eases of
that awful malady—there are but few who have seen more
of It than I have.
1 know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged peo
ple cured by it. For the various diseases of the Liver, Sick
Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain In
the side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly is diseases
of the Kidneys, Ac., the discovery haa done more good than
any medicine ever known.
No change of diet ever necessary—eat the beat you got
and enough of it.
DIRECTIONS Fon LTss.—Adults one table spoonful per day
—Children over ten years dessert spoonful. Children
from five to eight years, tea spoonful. As no direc
tions eau be applicable to all constitutions, take ■ufcient
to operate on the bowels twice a day.

would offend the ear of decency; with an outline of

Testimony of the Professor of Obstetrics in Penn
College,Philadelphia.—Dr.Huntees Medical Man
ual.—The author of this work, unlike the majority
of those who advertise to cure the disease of which
it treats is a graduate of one of the beat Colleges
in the United Stetes. it affords me pleasure to re
commend him to the unfortunate, or to the victim
of malpractice, as a successful and experienced
practitioner, in whose honor and integrity they may
place the greatest confidence.
Jos. S. LONOSEIORC, M. D.
From A. Woodward, M. D., of Penn. Universi
ty, Philadelphia.—lt gives me pleasure to add my
testimony to the professional ability of the Author
of the "Medical Manual." Numerous cases of dis
ease of the,Gental Organs, some of them of long
standing, have came under my notice, in which
his skill has been manifest in restoting to perfec,
health, in cases where the patient has been consid
ered beyond medical aid. In the treatment of Sem
inal weakness, or disarrangement of the functions
produced by sell-abuse, or excess of venery, I do
not know his superior in the profession. I hay"
been acquainted with the Author some thirty years,
and deem it no more than justice to him as well as
kindness to the unfortunate victim of early indis
cretion, to recommend him as one in whose pro
fessional skill and integrity they may safely confide
themselves. ALFRED WOODW 4RD, M. D.
This is without exception, the most compre
hensive and intelligent work published on the class.
of diseases of which it treats. Avoiding all tech
nical terms, it addresses itself to the reason of its
readers. It is free from all objectionable matter,
and no parent, however fastidious, can object to
placing it into the hands of his sons. The author
has devoted many years to the treatment of the
various complaints treated of. and, with too little
breath to puff, and too little presumption to im
pose, he has offered t o the world, at the merely
nominal price of 25 cents, the fruit of some twenty
'years , most successful practice."—Herald.
"No teacher or parent should he without the
knowledge imparted in this invaluable work. It
would save years of pain, mortification and sorrow
to the youth under their charge. ,, --Peoples Advo
cate.
A Presbyterian clergyman in Ohio, writing of
''Hunter's Medical Manual" says:—'• Thousands
upon thousands of our youth, by evil example and
influence of the passions, have been led into the
habit of self-pollution, without realizing the sin
and fearful consequences upon themselves and
their posterity. The constitution of thousands who
are raising families have been enfeebled, if dot bro
ken down, and they do not kcow the cause or the
cure. Anything that can be dove so to enlighten
and influence the public mind as to check, and ul
timately to remove this wide-spread 'source of hut;
man wretchedness, would confer the greatest blcs,
sing next to the religion of 'Jesus Christ, on th"e
present and coming generations. Intemperance (or
the use of intoxicating drinks) though it has slain
thousands, is not a greater scourge 'o the human
race. Accept my thanks on behalf attic afflicted,
and, believe me, your co-worker in the good work
you are so actively engaged in."

_•,
They were granted by the government to encourage the
building of this Railroad, which runs from the extreme
north to the extreme south of the State of Illinois. It pas
ses, from end to mid, through; the richest and most fertile
Prairies of the State. dotted hero anti there with inagnlll
- Oak tirovea. The recent opening of nearly too Wiese(
this road throws open the [antis tar cultivation. They are
scattered from I to fifteen mills on each side ot It, through
its entire length.
The soil is a dark, rich mould, from ono to five feet in
depth, Is gently robing, and Peculiarly fitted for grazing
cattle and sheep, and the cultivation of wheat, Indian
corn, Sc. I •
The first crop of Indian corn planted on the newly bro
ken prairie. usual) pays the cost of plowing and sometime a
fencing. Wheat sown on nel v turned sod is sure to yield
very large profile. One man Ith a plow and two yoke o f
oxen will break one and a half to two acres per day. Con
tracts can ho made for breaking, ready for corn or wheat ,
at $2 to $2 50 per acre. Ilyjodiciouji management farm s
may be broken and fenced the first and under a high
state of cultivation the second year.
The larger yield on the she p land. of Illinois, over high
priced lands in the Eastern nd S liddie States, is known
to toe much more than manic nt to pay the difference o f
transportation to the Eastern imarket . The rapid increase
and growth of flourishing towns and villeges along the
line of this road afford a groWing home demand fon farm
produce.
Coal and wood are delivered along the road at Moron
points at front $1 50 to $4 the cord or ton.
Parties having in view 'omit, Kansas, Nebraska, or Min
nesota for their future homes should take into considera
tion that the country west of the Mississippi is destitute
of railroads; that the conveniences of transporting grain
and produce farms on the line of the Illinois Central
Railroad, direct to the great Eastern market, it sufficient
of itself to pay the investment at from $lO to $l5 per acre
higher than iu government I: , ude iu lowa. In other word.
that it costs so much more t ,get produce from the Interi'
or of the country west of the 3lississippl:to the Eastern
market, that the farmer will find it much more profitable
to locate on the line of this railroad.
Price and Terms of l'ayment.—The prim will vary from
$4 to $25, according to location, quality, &c. Contracts for
deeds may be made during the year 1055, stipulating the
purchase money to be paid in five annual instalments—
the first to be due in two yea; from date of contract, the
other annually thereafter. 1 e lust payment will become
due at the end of the sixth year from date of contract.
By tho22il second section 4 the Act of the Legislature,
approved 10th February, 1853. these lands aro free from
taxation until they are paid Ittr, and a deed of conveyance
granted to the purchaser. i
Interest will be charged ati-only two per cent. per Ml
num.—Ao a security fur the performance of the contract,
the first two years' interest Must be paid In advance, but
it must be understood that o 30 tenth of the land purcha
sed shall yearly be brought -under cultivation. Longer
credits at six per cent. per atuum may be negot4ated by
special application. Twenty per cent. from the credit price
will be deducted for cash, Is which case the Company's
Construction Bonds will be received as cash. . -
It is believed that the prict, long credit, and low rates
of interest charged for these lands, will enable a MED
with a few hundred dollars I cash, and ordinary Industry
to make himself independent before all the purchase mon
ey becomes due. In the m time the rapid settlement
of the country will probabl have increased their value
