DEATHS.
In Manor twp., on the 12th inst., Anna Kauff
man, widow of the late Henry Kauffman, aged 59
years, 6 months and 19 days.
On the 25th ult., at sea, on his passage from
Brazos Santiago to New Orleans, of yellow fever,
Lieut. Edward-Hayes, of the 4th Artillery, IL S. A.
Lieut. H. was son of Hon. A. L. Hayes, of this city,
and a young man of great promise.
On the 3d inst., in Carlisle, Joseph Ogilby, son
of the late Joseph Ogilby, of this city.
In Marietta, on the 9th inst., Jane Goodyear,
G aged 64 years.
In Columbia, on Monday week,- Henry K. Mey
ers, aged 19• years, 2 months and 10 days.
The Markets.
PaitinxLpara, Dee.. 24, 1853
Floua—There is a steady demand for export, but
generally at a price below the views of sellers, and
only about 2000 bbla. have been disposed of for
shipment, including 900 bbls. ordinary City Mills;
at $8 82i; 800 bbls. straight and better brands, at
$6 75, which is the uniform asking rate; and 700
bbls. extra at eper bbl. , The sales for -home use
are, to a moderate extent, within the rangeol $8 75
a 7 50 for good retailing to extra and fancy fami
ly brands. Rye Flour remains inactive at $5 per
bbl. Corn Meal is without much inquiry. A furs
titer sale of 600 bbls. Brandywine was made at
$3 SU. Penns, meal is dull at $3 25 per bbl.—
Grain.—The receipts and sales of wheat are light,
and the demand good both for shipment and mill
ing at fullo former rates. About 3000 bush. Penn.
red sold in lots at 150 c. and 2060 bus. white, part
at 160 c. and part at a price not public—said to be
at a higher figure. Rye is about stationary at 95
a 96c. Corn is in moderate request with further
sales of fia 6000 bus. new. Southern yellow at 65
a.7oc. according to dryness. Oats remains dull,
and about 800 bus. inferior Penna. sold at 40c.
CATTLE MAR aux.-- , -The offerings of Beef Cattle
this week corn yrieed 1900 head. Of this number
300 were for Now York, and the balance at $7,50
a 9,50, according to quality. Cows and Calves are
in steady demand at $12a35 for the former. Prime
Mitch Cows are in demand. Hoge are arriving less
freely; about 1600 head being offered. They are
in fair demand at $6,00a6,70 per 100 lbs. The
number of killed Hogs offeied is very limited.—
Sheep and Lambs are scarce and in demand.—
About 1200 head sold at $2 to 6,60 each, accord
ing to quality.
Buildings for sate.-On Saturday the 14th
day of January next, at 6 o'clock iu the eve
ning, at the public house of John Michael in the
city of Lancaster, will be sold by public vendue,
the materials f live two-story brick dwelling
houses, a two-story brick printing office, two brick
stables, two frame houses and other buildings, sit
uated on the ground purchased for the purpose of
erecting new Market Houses in the city of Lan
caster.
Persons wishing to purchase will call at the
Mayor's office, where they can get a statement / of
the size of materials, &cc., &c., contained in the
buildings. The terms and time for removing said
buildings will be made known at the sale. By res
