Murder—Much excitement was .Produced in our Borough on Tuesday morning a week by the an nouncement that a murder had lieen committed about tt o'clock, the previous evening. It ap pears that Barney Anders, a day-laborer, has been living on bad terms with his wife for a long time, and had frequent quarrels with her', said to be ow ing to her immoral conduct. There is no doubt that she was an unfaithful and loc:ie woman, and it is said that she frequently taunted her husband with her own infidelity. She had her ihusbacd put to jail last winter for ill-treating her, and he had been out but ten or twelve days. It is said that on Monday night, he went into his house and had some words with his wife, and While they were quarreling two men came and tapped on the win dow outside. Barney Went out to see who was there, and while he was out she locked the door and refused to let. him in again. Ille their broke open the door, knocked his wife down and drawing a razor from his pocket, cut her throat from ear to ear. He was soon afterwards arrested arid com mitted to, prison. Coroner Freerfien held an in quest Oil 'Tuesday and the jury returned a verdict in accordance with the above facts.--Eusiciii Argue. BT Rev. Mammoth Steamers.—We see it stated in the Lon don Times that a proposition is on toot to build iron steamers of 720 feet in length, with 90 feet beam, and 36 in depth, with four engines of 1001) horse power, and a screw, while there will be eight masts, with huge latteen sails. The vessels are to be built of iron, and will not only, he shot but fire proof; and, a novel method, though simple, and for strength known to every schoolboy, their immense length renders them more safe than those of smal• ler construction. It is calculated to carry 2000 passengers, with a theatre for amusements, &c., and could, in case of war, open a battery of three hun dred guns. This projected scheme is for the pur pose of bringing the English Colonies within a month's reach of London. The Weather at the South and Ifest.—The Wood, ville (Miss.) Whig of the Gth of l March says : "The Spring has opened with a sudden burst of beauty. The wilderness has commenced to bud and blossom. The thermometer, for days past, has been up to summer heat. The farther is planting his seed in waiting for the early rain." The Nash ville Advocate of the 13th says:---," We have had a most delightful season thus tar during the mouth of March. Vegetation is putting forth rapidly, and is perhaps a month in advance of the spring of 1851." Very different has it been with us at the North. Heavy Claims.—The heirs of !Gen. Ayer,—Sir: I was taken with a terrible cough, brought on by a cold, in the beginning of last February, and was confined to my bed more than two months. Coughing incessantly night and day, I became ghastly and pale, my eyes were sun ken and glassy, and my breath very short. Indeed, I was rapidly failing, and iu such distress fbi breath that but little hope for my recovery could be en tertained. Whiie in this situation, a friend of mine, (the goy. John Keller, of the slethodist church) brought me a bottle of your Cherry Pecto ral, which I tried more to gratify h'm, than from any expectation or obtaining relief. Its good effect nduced rue to continue its use, and I soon found my health much improved. Now in three menthe, I am well and strong, and can attribute my cure only to your great meiciae.
