WITH all due reverence for the genius, talents
and virtues of the illustrious philosoper, who
added so much to the dignity of humanity, Messrs.

SAMUEL B. RAINES' NEW AND IMPROVED
Horse Power,
NOW being manufactured at the shop of the
undersigned in East King Sheet, Lancaster.
This cheap and simply constructed Horse Power
excels any others now in use—and more easily
operated, and cannot be put out of gear. a.
It is a single conical Wheel Horse Power with
four Levers, to be operated by four or eight horses.
The bed frame is solid and firmly prevents the
gearing from getting out of order, and no danger
of breakage.
The master wheel is cone shaped, having the
teeth or cogs on the underside, and the lever loops
cast solid with the wheel. The levers are firmly
set into boxes in the hub of the wheel, and secured
by rods extending to each lever, and regulate the
easy motion of the master wheel, so that the power
of each horse is regularly divided, and the wheel
is prevented from jarring by the sudden starting of
the horse. The bed frame is composed of two
solid plank forming right angles by being halved
together at their centres. The bed plate is formed
of a solid iron casting, having a cone shape nivel
resting upon the centre of the bed frame and firmly
bolted through. The cone shaped pivot has a
shoulder upon which the master wheel revolves.
Journals or boxes are firmly screwed to the bed
plate and secure the regular horizontal motion o
the main F haft.
Farmers are invited to call and examine the Ma
chines, which are warranted to purchasers.
The undersigned having spent much time and
trouble in perfecting this valuable invention, and
the machine having been fully tested, and applica
tion having been made in March last to secure Let
ters Patent for said Improved Horse Power: All
persons are hereby duly notified and cautioned not
to manufacture the same for sale or use, as they
will assuredly be dealt with according to law.
Orders for the above Machine will be directed to

Important to Farmers & Thresh
ing Machine Makers.
THE subscriber respectfully informs the public
that he has lately completed a TRIPLETOW
ER INTERNAL GEARED HORSE POWER,
which outrivale any other' in use, It is made en
tirely of Iron, both Frame and Gearing. The Jour
nals are Cast-Steel—its weight is 600 lbs. On tOal
it has proved itself capable of performing from 60
to 100 per cent. more work than other Powers with
the same labor of the team. It is warranted to ‘.
hold S horses.
I have also completed a• combined THRESHER
AND CLEANER, which is capable of Threshing
and Cleaning from 300 to 500 bushels of wheat per
day, with from 6 to 8 HorSes, and an equal number
of hands. 4 horses can thresh with it from 100 to
200 bushels pet day of wheat, and 400 to 500 of
oats. It is very convenient for those who follow
Threshing, and for two or more farmers to own in
company; it is more convenient to move than any
machine in use. The Machine stands on the - wag
on while threshing—the Power is loaded on the
same wagon in- moving—two horses are sufficient
to move it; it will save enough labor in threshing
2000 bushels to pay its extra cost. It will thresh
in the field or by a stack as conveniently as in a barn.
The cylinder and concave can readily be adjusted
so as to thresh with equal facility both tough and dry
grain. It is free from the complication and liability
to get out of order of other machines of the kind,
and of less cost—price 8100,00.

DR. MUNN'S ,
Bronchitic Pulmonary Syrup,
FOR THE CURE OF COUGHS, COLDS, BRON
CHITIS, CONSUMPTION, &c.
THIS Bronchitic Pulmonary (or Olive Branch)
Syrup, is pleasant to the taste, seldom nausea
tes the stomach, keeps up the strength, yet re
lieves Coughs, Colds in the head and on the lungs,
Hoarseness, Bronchiti, Tintfat ails, Asthma, &.c. It
has been taken by hundreds in various directions
and needs only to be known to be appreciated.—'
The observing say that a goon expectorant medi
cine is needed and this is brought forth, as the re.
suit of years of observation, to supply the necessity.
)*--Please read the certificates of the following
named individuals, who have used it:
This is to inform my friends and the public, that
I have used Dr. Mom's Bronchitic Pulmonary
Syrup in my oven lamily, and I cheerfully testify,
that it is the best expectorant medicine which I
ffl
have ever used, although I have practised
for the last fifty years, and observed the trial and
abandonment of many highly praised Expectorants.
I see ibe need of a good article of the kind, and
cheerfully give this my support.
GEORGE MARTIN, M. D.,
(Aged 72, No. 31, York Avenue, Phil'a.)
Having recently been afflicted with a very sever
cold, cough and pain on the chest, I was induced
to make a trial of Dr. Alunn's Bronchitic Pulmonary
Syrup, and I take pleasure in stating, that the use
of a single bottle 'afforded are radical and entire
relief. Generally these attacks of colds and coughs
have been of a troublesome and protracted nature
—but my recent recovery was to unexpectedly
sudden, that I cannot but attribute it to the verf
efficient and valuable remedy of Dr. Moan. I have
had occasion, likewise, to observe its excellent
effect upon others, and do not hesitate, therefore.
most cordially, to recommend this. Syrup as one of
the best medicines of its kind, that has been intro
duced to the notice of the public.
E. W. HUTTER,
. .
Pastor of St. :Matthew's Lutheran Church,
New street, between Race and Vine, 3d and 4th.
This is to'certify, that I was afflicted with Bron-
I chitis, and severe affection in my organs of voice
tbr two y ears and a half, and after employing the
best med ical aid in the country, and trying a great
variety of cures, I was obliged entirely to abandon
' my business—when a friend recommended to me
I Dr. Mann's Syrup. I took it, and before the use of
the third bottle, to the astonishment of myself and
friends, I was entirely relieved. I am prepared,
therefore, to say, that it is ' in my opinion, the best
article for diseases of the throat and chest, of
.which I have any knowledge. It has cleared iny
complexion from that sallow, sickly hue, which
invariably attends. bronchitis—it has restored lily.
j appetite, and I have gained inure than 20 pounds
of flesh in three months. I have returned to sly
business and am once more a happy man.

TIIE GREAT SECRET AT
, LAST DISCOVERED.
For the Cure of Consumption
NEW SYSTEM AND NEW REMEDIES!!!
TRIUMPHANT SUCCESS.
IVTUTTALL'S SYRIA CUM. The cure for
IA Coughs, Colds, Sore Throat, Hoarseness,
Tickling in the Throat, Spitting Blood, Difficult
Breathing, Bronchitis, Incipient, Confirmed, and
Tubercular Consumption. In three bottles. Each
one pafticularly adapted to each one of three
stages of Consumpton. To the afflicted the ap
pearance in three bottles of Nuttall's Syriacum is
a new era in Medicine, from its novelty and direct
opposition to the old, absurd and inconsistent one
bottle system ; while its success, prepared in this
marmot., (each bottle containing a different prepara
tion,) in curing the oifferent stages which charac- '
terize Consumption, has established the welcome
truth of the curability of every stage of pulmonary
Consumption.
llPhysicians approve of it because it is based
upon correct Physiological and Pathological prin
ciples.
0-The Public approve of it, becalse it is com
mon sense, and because they know from, sad ex
perience, that one preparation will not cure the
three stages of Consumption.
p:ZrThe suffering, disappointed, and discouraged
invalid approves of it, bedause its principles hold
out a reasonable hope, and when lie uses Nuitall's
Syriacum, Ids hopes are realized.
if he is in the first stage of Consumption and
uses the first bottle, his expectoration, difficult and
painful, becomes free and easy, his cough soon
gets well, the soreness, tickling in his throat, in
flammation, pain in his breast, side, head, back,
joints, and limbs are removed.
If he is in the second stage and uses the second
bottle, his lever leaves him, his disturbed slum
bers become sweet and refreshing, his night-sweats
vanish, his expectoration, copious and bloody,
assumes a healthy appearance, and at length dis
appears, hie bowels become regular, his appetite
returns, the flush in his cheek disappears, the
burning heat in the palms of his-hands and soles
of his feet, are felt no longer, his cough now ceases,
- he recovers and is well.
If he is in the third stage, and uses the third
bottle, his Diarrhoea gradually ceases, his weak
bowels become strong, his cough and other bad
symptoms disappear, (and if the patient is a female,
her monthly periods return,) his feeble digestion
becomes strong and vigorous, his stemach recovers
its power and tone, and creates new, rich, and
nourishing blood, his strength returns, his wasted
body is clothed with flesh, his life is saved, and he
is-restored to health.
Each bottle of Nuttall's Syriacum has the symp
toms of the stage for which it is intended printed
in front of the wrapper, whereby every invalid
knowing his own symptoms, can judge for himself
which bottle he requires, consequently no mistake
can occur in selecting the proper medicine.

in about two hours, out of the stomach'.
PEPSIN is the chief element, or Greet Digesting
Principle of the Gastric Juice—the solvent of the
food, the purifying, preserving and stimulating
agent of the stomach and intestines. It in extracted
trom the digestive stomach of the Ox, thus form
ing an. Artificial Digestive Fluid, precisely like the
natural Gastric Juice in its chemical powers, and
famishing a complete and perfect substitute for it.
By the aid of this preparation, the pains and evils
at Indigestion and Dyspepsia are removed, just as
they would be by a healthy stomach. It is doing
wonders for dyspeptics, curing, Cases of Debility,
Emaciation, Nervous Decline, and Dyspeptic Con
sumption, supposed to be on the verge of the grave.
The scientific evidence upon which it is based, is
in the highest draree curious and remarkable
SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE!
Baron Liebig In his celebrated work on Anima
Chemistry, says: 'An artificial Digestive Fluid,
analogous to the Gastric Juice, may be readily
prepared from the mucous membrane of the stom
ach of the calf, in which various articles of food,
as meat and eggs, will be softened, changed, and
digested, just in the same manner as they would
be in the human stomach."
Dr. Pereira, in his fanious treatise on " Food and
Diet," published by Fowler 8 Wells, New York,
page 35, stales the same great fact, and describes
the method of preparation. There are few higher
authorities than Dr. Pereira.
Combe, in his valuable writings on the
Physiology of Digeslion," observes that "a dim.
inution 0! The due quantity of the Gastric Juice is
a prominent and all-prevailing cause of Dyspepsia;"
and he states that "a distinguished professor of
medicine in London, who was severely afflicted
with this complaint, finding everything else to fail,
had recourse to lire Gastric J uice, "obtained front
the stomach of living animals, which proved com
pletely set cressful 1."
Dr. Graham, author of the famous works on
"Vegetable Diet," says.: " It is a remarkable fact
in ph - asiology, that the stomachs of animals, mace
rated in water, impart to the fluid the property of
dissolving various articles of food, and of effecting
a kind of artificial digestion of them in nowise
defferent front the natural digestive process." •

were neatly all desperate cases, and the cures were
not only rapid and wonderful, but permanent.
It is a great Nervous Antidote, and particularly
useltit fur tendency to Billions disorder, Liver
Complaint, Fever and Ague, or badly treated Fever -
and Ague, and the evil effects of Quinine, Mer
cury and other drugs upon the Digestive Organs,
alter a long sickness. Also, for excess inZeating,
and the too free use of ardent spirits:,, It almost
reconciles health with intemprance.

FEVER AND AGUE
rOMN.F.TELY CURED IN THREE DAUB •BY DR. J. W
BOOTEE'S VEGETABLE COAIPOUND
FEVER AND AGUE PILLS.
TEIESE Pills are composed entirely of Vegeta
ble Subrminces, and in ninety-nine cases out of
every hundred, will perform a perfect and perma
nent cure in three days. No instance naa ever
been known, where more than six days have been
required to perform a complete cure, even in the
very worst cases, and on the strongest constitu
tions. We would earnestly say to all who are
afflicted with this distressing diseaae, .to get one
box and try them, and in all cases, two boxes are
warranted to cure, if taken according to the di.
mations, or the money returned. ALSO, MY
VEGETABLE ANTI-DYSPEPSIA BITTERS.
This medicine is a certain cure for Dyspepsia
in its very worst forms. Thousands of cases have
been completely cured by it within the last year,
which have been entirely despaired of by the reg
ular family physicians. We do not recommend It
to cure I everything—we recommend it to cure
Dyspepsia, and the diseases originating from it,
and that it will cure in almost every case, and it is
recommended for nothing:else. In many instances,
even the worst of cases have been completely
cured in two and three months, but it depends
somewhat upon the constitution of the patient.
We would say to all who are afflicted with Dys•
pepsin, give this medicine a fair trial, and if it fails
to do good, your money will be returned. ALSO,
MY VEGETABLE WORM POWDERS.
This is the most wonderful Worm Destroyer
ever known, and at the same time, so pleasant to
take, -that almost every, child will be fond of it,
and many instances have been known of children
crying for more after once taking it.
'1 his medicine is in the form of a powder, the
only medicine ever used in that form, and it °pe
t-tees upon a principle entirely different from any
other medicine ever administered by any other
physician. It is the only medicine which has no'
Worm. seed Oil or Turpentine combined with it,
which is believed by all other physicians, to be the
only two things which will destroy worms, and
Mese two things combined, together with castor
oil, are the active principles of all other worm
medicines, which every person who has ever tasted
o r smelled, knows to he the most nauseous of all
nauseous medicines, and on account of which, there
is generally something added to destroy this nau
seous taste, and in order to do this, it is same
,hing stronger thariP the medicine itself, and
therefore it must necessarily destroy some of its
medicinal properties. These powders are simple
and so harmless, that a child may eat a whole box
at once, and it will not be hurt, while at the same
time the principle upon which it acts being different
from anything else ever used, it will destroy all
kinds of Worms with a certainty never equalled.
It will not only destroy the seat worms, or Ascari.;
des, and long. round worms, or Tema, but is the
most effectual medicine for the destruction of the
Tape Worm. ever known. Ten doses have brought
as many as FIVE 'tape Worms from ono person.
If your children have any symptoms of worms,
try these Powders, and in nine cases out of ten,
you will never use any other. These are also
warranted.
'These medicines arc all separate, and one for
each disease, and each for only one disease. They
are not recommended, as many other medicines
are, to cure some fifteen or twenty diseases, and
all of different natures, but they are each to cure
but one diseztse, and that they will do in ninety.
nine cases out of every hundred, and where they
have a fair trial and fail in all cases, the money will
be returned,
