Balance in Treasury wlieu all Fire Taxes
are paid up, $ 569 47
Out of said balance, the following expenses " 1 "
arc to be paid. Printiug Notices and Au
ditors' fees,
In the foregoing statement it appears that the print
ing and publishing of notices of Fires, notices to mem
bers for collections of Fire Taxes, make a large portion
ot the expense to the Company, which will be much
less hereafter, by making but one assessment per year
lor payment of losses ; also much less labor to the Sec
retary. Treasurer. Directors and Ageuts, as provided
by the late alterations in the act of Incorporation and
By-laws, which will reduce the aunual expenses of the
Company a considerable amount.
The Company unfortunately sustained and paid
many losses to a largo amount this last year, making
two collections amounting to 12 per cent on the premi
um notes. A number of Policies were surrendered for
cancellation by some of the members, who thought
proper to relieve themselves from contributing in such
a manner auy further to make un the losses of their
fellow members. Yet with such and loss of
a number of members, the Company has increased in
the last year. A large amount of property Insured,
and a larger amount of Premium Notes as a capital as
was at the commencement of the year, and as appears
lrom the number of applications for Insurances, the
Company is in a prosperous condition. Witness, our
hands, May 18,1850. MARTIN WEIDMAN,

On this occasion it will be used for some hours

a rope and windlass, where they can see the world
in one grand and sublime view from an isolated spot.
Every arrangement will be made to promote the
comfort and safety of visitors and passengers on
the occasion.
In the evening the Balloon will be started free in
the air for a long voyage with a party of passengers.
There is room left for two more passengers.-r*

Valuable Lunds In Prince William
County, Virginia, for Sale.
THE subscribers are authorized to sell a tract of
land, lying in Prince William County, Virginia,
containing over
TWO THOUSAND ACRES.
It is bounded in part by the Potomac and Chopa
wamsie creek, upon which it presents a water front
of about one and three quarter miles, and thcupper
part of the tract is but a short distance from Quan
tico creek. About six hundred acres are
CLEARED LAND,
well adapted to agriculture, and the residue is in
wood, of which it is estimated there are from 65
to 70,000 cords, mostly of oak and pine, to which
the facilities of water carriage add great value.
The buildings consist of seven or eight
LOG HOUSES;
such as are common to that part of the country. The
land ts abundantly watered with fine springs, and
it is supposed to be especially adapted to the rais
ing of early fruits and vegetables ; and as two steam
boats pass the place daily, and sailing vessels con
stantly, these productions may be profitably and
speedily sent to market.
There are strong indications of an abundance of
hematile IRON ORE, samples of which have been
analysed and found to yield 48 per cent, of metal.
Indications of other metals have been found in the
neighborhood, and may be present also here.
On that part of the tract bounding on the river
there exists a most
VALUABLE FISHERY,
equal to any in that neighborhood, and during the
winter the river and creeks abound with canvass
back ducks, and other wild fowl, for which the
Potomac is so justly celebrated.
This tract of land presents a rare opportunity for
a combination of several families who desire* to
provide homes at a small cost, and at the same
time the opportunity of becoming surely prosperous.
