WASHING REDUCED TO A SCIENCE.
Stephen Crane's Patent Com
pound Wash Mixture.
THIS mixture is one of the most useful and im
portant inventions of modern times, for wash
ing clothes perfectly, with astonishing facility and
despatch, and without injury to texture or color.
Every family, of whatever size, can do all their
washing in one-third the time, exclusive of the
rinsing and drying, without the labor of nibbing,
pounding, bleaching or boiling, thus saving time,
expense and labor; while clothing itself will be
saved from the wear and tear of machines and fric
tion, and last much longer. Also, for washing
surfaces, and every article or thing which may
* require cleansing. The mixture may be Qbtained,
for Lancaster county, at the Book of Judd &
Murray, opposite the Post Office, Lancaster citv.
All this can be tested at a small expense, and we
invite the whole city and county of Lancaster to
comeand try it. Family and County Rights forsale,
in and for the counties of Lancaster, Berks, Leba
non, Dauphin, Schuylkill, Northumberland, Lu
zerne, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Wayne, Pike, Car
bon, Northampton and Monroe.
Beware of imposition,- as all violation of the
Patent will be prosecuted.
Address AIARTIN JOHNS, Agent,

The undersigned, citizens ofLancaster city, have,
for several weeks past, been using in their families

Valuable Lands for Sale.
A gentleman in Virginia offers for sale a very
desirable tract of Land lying in the county of
Greenbrier, west of the Allegheny mountains. It
contains about
Twenty-Two Hundred Acres;
—seventeen hundred of which are rich alluvial
bottom, —not surpassed in fertility by any in the
Union. Some three or four hundred acres of the
bottom, and about two hundred acres of the upland
are open for cultivation. The uncleared portion of
bottom land is covered with a forest of
SHELL BARK, HICKORY, MAPLE, BUCKEYE,
The tract lies immediate ly on the Great Kanawha
Turnpike, within a short distance of the celebrated
Virginia Springs ; and the central improvement of
the State, now in the course of construction, will
either pass through or near it. It is confidently
believed that salt water may be obtained on it—anil
bituminous coal is abundant.
The tract might be advantageously divided into
four or more parts ; and in the hands of industrious
Pennsylvania Farmers and Graziers, would, in a
few years, readily command from $3O to r4O per
acre. There are few or no slaves in this section of
the State, and free labor is readily obtained.
The owner, living in a distant part of the State,
will sell the tract for FIFTEEN DOLLARS PER
ACRE; —one fourth cash—the balance in three equal
annual instalments.
For further particulars inquire at this office.

AND CONSUMPTION-.
THE uniform success which has attended the use
ofthis preparation—its salutary effect—its pow
er to relieve and cure affections of the Lung 9, have
gained for it a celebrity equalled by no other med
icine. We offer it to the nffiicted with entire con
fidence in its virtues, and the full belief that it will
subdue and'remove the severest attacks of disease
upon the throat and Lungs. These results, as they
become publicly known, very naturally attract the
attention of medical men and philantropists every
where. What is their opinion of CHERRY PEC
TORAL may be seen in the following:
VALENTINE MOTT, M. IV,
Prof. Surgery Med. College, New York , says:—
‘• It gives me pleasure to certify the value and
efficacy of Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, which I consider
peculiarly adapted to cure diseases of the Throat
and Lungs.” cj
THE RT. REV. LORD BISHOP FIELD
writes in a letter to his Iriend, who was fa-*t sinking
under an affection of the Lungs : —“ Try the Cher
ry Pectoral, and it any medicine can give you
relief, with the blessing of God that will.”
C IEF JUSTICE EUSTIS,
of Louisiana, writes That a young daughter of
his was cured of several severe attacks of Croup by
the Cherry Pectoral.”
Hartford, Jan. 26, 1848.
Dr. J. C. Ayer—Dear Sir: —Having been rescued
from a painful and dangerous disease by your med
icine, gratitude prompts me to send vou this ac
knowledgment, not fmly iii justice to you, but for
the information of others in like afil.ction.
A slight cold upon the lungs, neg ecied at first,
became »o severe that spilling of blood, a violent
cough an I profuse night sweats followed and fas
tened upon me. I became emaciated, could not
sleep, was distressed by my cough, and a pain
tnrough my chest, and in short had all the alarming
symptoms ol quick ernsumption. No medicine
seemed atall to reach my case, until I providentially
tried your Cherry Pectoral, which soon relieved
.and now has cured me.
Yours with respect, K. A. •‘TEWART.

Dr. Aver, Lowell —Dear Sir:—l have for years
Milicted with Asthma in the worst form ; so
kfcut 1 have been obliged to sleep in my chair lor a
larger part of the time, being unable to breathe on
my bed. I had tried a’gn-at many medicines, to
110 purpose, until my 1 hvsician prescribed, as an
experiment, your Cherry Pectoral.
At first it seemed to make me worse, but in less
than a week I began to experience the most gra i
fying relief from its use ; and now, in four weeks,
the disease is entirely removed. I can sleyp on
my bed with comfort, and enjoy a stale of health
which I never expected to enjoy.
