. LANCASTER MUSECM.—Great preparations
are making at this popular establishment in the
way of alterations, and beautifying the place. A
new saloon will shortly be completed, which will
'surpass any thing of the kind ever attempted in
this city. It is to be well ventilated. Seats to be
arranged with backs, and cushioned for Ladies—
and a very select and talented company are en
gaged, and will perform a popular drama on the
opening night. We - hope they may succeed.

From the Montreal Transcript, July 22, IS4S.
• We think it clue to Dr. Wista.r that we should add
our testimony to numerous others, as to the extra
ordinary merits of his medicine in certain cures.
particularly where the patient has complained c.;
pain in the side, or in cases of an asthmatics:
character.
We are personally acquaint.d with many persons
who have experienced in. . L relief from the use
of this medicine, when laboring under the diseases
above mentioned; and as in the changeable climat.
of Canada these diseases are more than usuall '
common, any medicine calculated to counterac,
them must be of value.
We are aware that it has a large and still increas
ing sale, and has been very generally and benelici
ally used since its introduction into Canada three
years ago—and the very fact of its having stood th,
test of three years' experience is proof of its value
We are not in the habit'of recommending paten
medicines unless the benefits conferred by then
have come under our own observation: but in the
present instance we can recommend WISTAR't
BALSAM (IF WILD CHERRY, as a medicim
worthy of the confidence of the public in disease,
of the Chest an: Side, and in many cases in this
city severe Coughi have yielded to its influence.

"4. "ecause they may be taken at any time, when

5. Because they are cheap and portable, and will
retain all their virtues in full vigor for years, in an)

6. Because they keep the Stomach and Bowels
in a healthy state, and exert a happy effect in pre
venting despondency by calming and invigoratinL
the mind.
7. Because they effect cures without the usun'
attendants of other medicines, Sickness, Vomiting
and Griping.
8. Because they are exceedingly popular,.and
differ from the majority of Medicines, in the fact
that the More they are known the more they are
approved.

We have had lately several beautiful days
and glorious evenings. Judging from the number
of ladies and gentlemen promenading our streets,
visiting the Ice Cream - Saloons, discussing the
merits of ripe Strawberries, and the beautiful pro
portion and elegant fit of Jos. Gormly:s New Style
of Summer Clothing, and wondering how it is pos
sible that such superior goods can be afforded at
such remarkably low prices. But the reason is
plain, viz : the supply equals the deinand--and the
demand-equals the supply. The demand being so
great, he is satisfied with a very small profit. To
supply this demand he employs a vast number of
workmen who replenish his stock sufficiently, to
meet the wants bf the large number of purchasers

it necessary to submit them to the public, the origi

We beg leave, however, to call public attention to
tie following letter, addressed to a citizen of this
munty by the superintendent of an extensive menu
acturing establishment in Franklin county:
CHAMBERSBURG, April 28, 1849.
'Ma. HENRY E. Lestm4:—Your favor of the 25th
lint., is at hand, and in reply say that the Grind
stones we run with Wortz , s wheel are from 5 to 6
ilk high, 9 to 12 inches thick, weiglii^g worn 3 to
50/0 lbs. We formerly used an undershot wheel
12feet wide and 14 feet high. Our head in an
ortinary stage of the water is about 3 feet, 3 or 4
lathes Sometimes much less than that. kt ith
th old wheel we run two grindstones In the same
pike we have now four of Wortz's wheels (3 36
ant 1 40 inches,) running four grindstones and one
trip hammer weighing about 80 los. with less water
and doing more work in the same time. In regard
to 'he quality of the wheel for the purpose of
gritding, it is far superior to any I have ever used
or teen used, and for a low head I oelieve it is the
bee wheel in use—during the whole winter (which
has been unusually cold we have not been affected
at tll with the ice, and in high water at a stage
whbh would atop the old wheel entirely, we now
find no inconvenience from back water. Any fur
ther information on the subject I will be happy to
communicate, or it you could make it convenient
to tisit Chambersburg I will take great pleasure in
showing you the wheels. Respectfully, yours,

TO THE FARMERS OF PENNSYLV.IINI.d
THE Subscribers have made an arrangement with Mr. Wheeler, to manufacture for the ensuing season,
a large number of "PALMER'S WHEAT DRILL." They have' already received several orders
for them, and relying upon heavy sales, have determined to sell at small profits, so as to put them
within the reach of every farmer.
They believe this to be vastly superior to every other Drill in use, and intend to sell them much less
than any other cat able of doing as much.
Now is the time to purchase! Every Drill is warranted. .We challenge the world to produce a
Drill equal in operation, durability, workmanship and price to this. This is the third Drill invented by
Mr. Palmer, and he has now brought it to that state of perfection, beyond which it cannot be carried.
IT IS THE "NE PLUS ULTRA" OF GRAIN DRILLS,
and of course combines all the excellencies of every other, while it is free from all their imperfections.
All orders should be sent in or delivered to our agents as early as July, to secure.a Drill this year.
