PURSUANT to adjournment, a very large
ber of the citizens of Lancaster and Chester
counties, favorable to the construction of a Rail
Road down, the Octoraro Creek to North East of
Port Deposit, met at the public house of John
Twadriel, in Lower Oxford township.
The meeting was cztfled to order by appointing
Thomas .Wood, Esq., President, and John P. Har
lin, Secretary.
The very great enthusiasm on the part of those ,
present, manifested a conciousncss of the immense !
benefit such a road would be to all living near it; j
and also a determination to accomplish the greatly !
needed work. i
The committee of five appointed at a previous
meeting to view the routes being called upon, made
their report unanimously testifying therein that for
natural facilities no ground could be discovered,
better adapted for the cheap and easy location of
such a road, and that no road except some of our
thoroughfares would do a greater amount of busi
ness in.proportion to its length, nor be as profitable
to the stockholders.
That portion of the report was warmly approved
of, and unanimously believed to be correct. |
Several speeches were made urging the duty of;
making a strong effort in the important matter, and i
repeating the belief that the stock would pay 'aj
large percentage. One of the speakers, an expe- j
rienced business man whose calculations rarely
prove incorrect, averred as his belief that the stock j
would pay 12 per cent certainly.
It was agreed upon by the Commissioners that |
the books for taking stock be opened on the twenty- i
fifth day of July next, and remain open for three
days at places to be advertised hereafter in the i
Lancaster Examiner.ahd Intelligencer —in the West i
Chester Republican and Record —in the Elkton Cecil ■
Whig and Cecil Democrat ; and that the proceed- •
ings of this meeting be published in said papers, by
the advertising committee.

DR. SHERMAN, for the last five years past has
been laboring to spread his Medicated Lozen
ges far and wide, and his labors have not been in
vain they are now known in every part of our land
and on the Continent, and have met with universal
approbation. His Cough Lozenges have cured more
cases of influenza during its prevalence in New York
than any other medicine that can be named. His
\\ orm Lozenges continue to perform wonders where
all other remedies have failed—and his Camphor
Lozenges will relieve headache and palpitation in
a very few minutes while his Poor Man's Plaster,
w Jiicti costs only 12£ cents, is believed to be the
verv best strengthening plaster in the world. And
while these cures are being made by the Doctor's
preparations, the public have the satisfaction of
knowing that they are skilfully arid accurately pre
pared by a regular physician, and are altogether the
best inedichtes which can possibly be found, there
being no quackery or humbug aboiitthom. Dr. Sher
man-s warehouse is Nq. 106 Nassau street, N. Y.

WE have notunfrcquently called attention to this
article in the columns of our paper, and we
have done so with the full confidence that it was a
good one, and deserving the patronage of the pub
lic. We have had a chance to witness its effects
upon some of our friends, which in addition to the
high encomiums passed upon bv our brethren ofthc
press, not in paid puffs, but in honest candid state
ments, from having dun.cd a benefit themselves,
makes us desirous of advising all those who have
occasion to resort to a remedy for pulmonary affec
tions, to avail themselves of it. We have toomuch
confidence in Mr. Fowle, the proprietor, to believe
he would thrust this, or any other medicine upon
the community, unless he had full faith in its efficacy
—in confirmation of which the proprietor offers a
mass of testimony from the most unquestionable
sources. Neither would wc be understood as say
ing that this will always cure consumption after it
is seated, although it seldom fails to relieve the
worst cases—but at this season of the year almost
every body is liable to a cold, which if neglected,
will lead to fatal results—by taking this medicine,
we doubt not many lives may be saved.— New Eng

Over all the Hitmbuggery in the World, however bom
bastic and noisy it may appear.
AX T. FORD, being desirous of returning his

which they have come forward and welcomed him
—being an entire stranger among them—and for
the unprecedented patronage he has .received at
their hands, ad’opts this medium of expressing his
gratitude for their favors. He wishes it distinctly
understood that he does not attempt to thrust it
down the necks of the public, that his is the only
Clothing Store in the world, nor has he gotquite as
magnificent a front to his establishment as some
persons pretend to have ; but one thing is certain,
and it has been unanimously decided by the entire
population o iLancaster, that he has just deceived

will be to call and examine them. And rest assured,

Or. Franklin’* Opinion or Luck.
THE astonishing success of JOS. GOR.YIELY,
in the CLOTHING BUSINESS, excites the
surprise of some and the envy and jealousy of
others His unparalleled success some attribute
to one cause, and “ some to another-. And* some,
more envious than the rest, attribute it to any cause
that best suits their purposes, no matter how unjust,
or how foul the misrepresentations. Again, there
is another class more easily satisfied, and content
themselves by saying—“ Well, it is all luck—better
to be born lucky than rich. Born under a lucky
planet,” &c, “ Pshaw says Dr. Franklin, of luck,
all the luck I know of is in proper management.”
Precisely so, Dr., and just the operating cause in
the extensive business done at the great LANCAS
TER HALL OF FASHIONS. The in
this large business, and the only reason that it of.
large, is because he is careful in the 'selection is
good materials, and has all his goods well made —
and then the fit 61 his garments cannot be surpassed;
and are sold at prices that defy competition. This
is the cause of his astonishing success at the great
