Williams was right in this matter and
Craig brought the flrbt suit in order te

money. Williams says that he paid Craig

Among the 'customers befere the mayor
this morning was Jacob E. OrelT, whose
home Is en Beaver street. AVerd was sent

found that he was very dnink and abusing
his mother and slster. The former exhib
ited a very black eye which her dutiful
son had gtven her. Greff was taken te the
station heuse and waa heard this morn
ing. Alter the evidence had becn given
the mayor Intended sending Greff te
prison, but his mother begged him te allow
her seu te go if he would premise te de
better. She said that he was subject te (Its,
which came upon him at times after
drinking, and he was then scarcely re
sponsible for what he did. The mayor
finally consented te dlscharge the ofTcnder.
This has net becn the first time that Greff
was locked up, and the police say he only
gets drunken fits.
The ether peeple before the mayor were
loJgers. One of theso was Charles Kline
and anether William Vlpan, a puddler.
Beth were discharged, as wero Peter
Francis, a Nerwclgan, who had a Jeb
premised him at repairing res, and
Michael Kelly.
Kelly is well known about this county,
whero he works among the farmcrx. The
oulytreublo with him Is that he will gut
drunk, though net as frequently as In years

this morning he looked very thin and pale.
He said that he had Just bcen releaied from
a term in prison, whero he had been
almost starved, as he received nothing
but bread and water, lxl Spear and ethers
tell the same kind of stories. They sny
that thny recolve nothing whatever but
bread and water, and that is net very
strong dlet for strong men for two and
thrce months. Spear get sixty days yes
terday, although the ofllcer told him he

has been a great deal el complaint about
this kind of trontmeut of some drunks. It
