Cemjxdia, Feb. 14. Jehn Heldlnger,
the young aen of Geotge Reldinger, who
took a large tlose of laudanum en Thursday
morning, died at his home daring the
afternoon. Dr. C. 1 Markel was sum
moned by the parents and did all in his
power te sare the suffering child, but with
out avsll. lie remained In a romateso
condition until he died. This morning
Deputy Corener Ilershey empanelled the
following Jury te held an inquest J Z..
Tayler Gable, W. F. Leckard, Jehn 8.
Maxton, (loe. W. Yeung, S. Morrison and
Chaa. I. Filbert. After hearing the testi
mony of the parents and attending physi
cian, the jury decided that death was due
te an overdeso of laudanum, taken in an
accidental manner. The funeral will be
held en Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from
the home of his parents.
The concert of the Cheral soclety will be
given in the opera house this evening and
will be a fine musical entertainment. The
celebrated Ceurtney quartette, or New
Yerk, will assist and render seme fine
music, especially a part or the "Stabat
Mater." Mr. Bailsman has spared no pains
te make the concert a success.
A large audience was in the opera house
last night te witness the performance of the
Cleveland Minstrels. The performance was
ene of the best ever given in the opera
house, and every person wns well pleased.
The acting of the Japanose troupe was
simply wenderful.
Twe rolling mill boys indulged in a
brutal light at the Heeding freight station
yesterday afternoon, witnessed by a num
ber of men. Beth were badly used up, and
instead of fists used clubs te batter each
ethor. Jehn McAllister, a Reading brake
man, compellod the boys te step.
The January statement of the Reading
relief fund shows that 01 was paid for
deatl), $12.80 for sickness and $3 for acci
dent benefits te Reading efc Columbia
empleyes.
The pay car of the P. R. R. was In town
this afternoon. v
Sedgwick Circle, Lndies oflhe O. A R.,
will open their festival te-night In the Mc
Tague building.
The Democratic cenferrces met last night
and placed Jacob S. Snyder en the ticket
for tax collector, In the place of F. P. D.
Miller, declined.
Chris. Wertz and Jehn KIse, of Wash
ington borough, had their teams atDcsch's
hotel last night, and Jacob Witiiicr, of
Maner township, had his team at the Cen
tral. Wlille the men were at the opera
house seme miscreant went into the stables
and deliberately cut the harness. The

a sbaip knife, as the harness was clean cut.
The men discovered the work befere they
started for home, and thus prevented an ac

Last evening there was a very small
audionce at the opera heuse te see " The
Main Line" as produced by Maud Harris
and company. The peeple secmed te be
pleased with the show.
Te-day the members of the company are
stranded in this city, and are unable te get
out of town. At an early hour this morn
ing two members left for Alteena, where
they were te have appeared te night and
are said te have a large advance sale of
seats. All day long the remaining actors
have beea trying te get away, but
se far they have fulled. They have
been telegraphing te New Yerk for
tnoney, but it has net yet come.
The company wero at the P. R. R,
station for three trains te-day, but they
could net get oil'. Fast Line wns the last
iu which they could reach Alteena In time
te play te-night, but they could net make
it, se they returned te their hotel. One of
the actors stated this nftorneon that he
thinks the manager of the party has money
enough te take thorn out of town, but he
does net show It.
Funeral or C. II. llerr.
The funeral of C. 11. Herr, late president
of the Lancaster County bank, took place
this afternoon. Therewas a brief funeral
service at ' the rosldence of. tlie do de
ceased, Ne. 421 West Orange street.
The body was then taken te the Duke
street M. L church, whero Dr. S. M.
Vernen, the pastor, prea'ched the sermon.
The Intorment was made at Woodward
H1U and the pall-bearcrs wore: W. II.
Bateman, S. M. Myers, Dr. U.S. Keudlg,
Geerge W. Marshall, Isaac Stlrk and D. P.
Bitner. The bank with which deceased
was connected wns closed this afternoon
and the clerks attended the funeral.

This afternoon the Glee club of Franklin
and Marshall college, te the number of
twenty people, left Lancaster for Harris
burg, where they give a concert te-night.
The club will be received by a number of
the leading society peeple of that city and
the wife of Governer Beaver will be ene of
the patrenesses.

of the Sturgis house, received a prairie
wolf from Kansas, which he has secured te
a chain iu his stable. He Is of the gray
species and net mere than six or eight
months old. He is forocieus-looking and
wild. It is the intention of the owner te
have a chase en the 25th Inet., and he
should rertalnly make a lively chase and
an unusual contest for the dogs that under
take te attack him.

smashing it terribly. The young man
was taken te his home after his injuries
had been attended te.

The last of the reason's assemblies was
held en Thursday evening In L'shleman's
hall and remarkably well attended. The
grip and ether causes have affected the
atteudance this winter, but the brilliant
throng of dancers at the last assembly
made the most of It, and the music did net
cease until nearly two a. in. The follow

shanty, baa been arrested and held for a

Last evening Jehn Itensel and Newton
Levaa opened a series of games of peel at
the peel rooms attached te the Keystone
house, en North Queen street. They
played fifteen games, and of that number
eleven were wen uy Levari, a large
crowd witnessed the games, and a great
deal of interest was manifested.
