William W. Gresh, the well known fox
hunter, of NsfTsvllle, and Ames Ktnrk
had a fine hunt after a wild fox onTuev
day. They were en ttielr way te Irenvllle
in the' morning. It was befere daylight
when It began raining nnd the men went
into an old shed befere reaching their des
tination te, keep dry and await daylight.
The dogs wero left outside of the building
and it was net long until they had started
up a fox. The men wero seen upon their
horses and they at once started nfter Rey
nard. Tlie chaie lasted until two o'clock
In the afternoon and it was very exciting,
' although participated in but by a few.
The fox ran towards Rohreratown, thence'
te Landlsvllle and made a very crooked
route which must bare been nt leait SO miles
In length, lie was finally killed by the
dogs near n farmer's heuse botweon Peters
burg and Mar.helm. Mr. Gresh was unable
He get up In time te save the nnlmnl's life.
When he reached the place he found tle
dogs all there. A woman, who wns the
i only person at home, then sliowed him the
' - fox, which she said had born killed by the

Alderman Hal bach received a letter this
morning announcing the dcatheu last
Thursday of Jehn St. Clair, of C'elumbu,
Georgia, a brother of his wlfu. Mr. St.
Clair was lu his usual geed health en the
day previous te his death. In the oveulug
he was stricken with paralysis and dleJ
the next morning.
Mr. St, Clair was born lu tills city nnd
was 53 years of age. He went te Columbus
la 1858 te work at his trade of painting. He
seen relinquished that business te nccept it
clerkship, which be held until the nut
break of the war. He enlisted en the Ter
rell Artillery and all during the war wus
in charge of gun Xe. 2, with the rank or
sergeant. A Columbus paper states "tint
he was one of the bravett and most valiant
soldiers who fought for the lest cause."
After the war Mr. St. Clair returned te
Columbus and became n member of the
police ferce In 1S37 mul was 1111 the force
since then, except during three sessions of
the Georgia Legislature, when he held thu
office of assistant doer-kecpor.
His funeral was largely nttendud and the
services were conducted by Mr. Oee. J.
Burns, in the absonce of Futher Schlenke.
His associates en the pollce ferce acted ns
pall-bearcrs.

levy was made. This will pay the amount
of the claims held by the above named
bankers.
It ie said that a New Yerk tobacco man,
for whom they bought leaf tobacco, will be
a heavy loser.
The cause of tbe failure Is said 'e be the
Inability of the firm te sell their uteck of
tobacco, which has beeu held for the past
two years. It was bought at a .high price
and did net-turn out well.
Its 18th Anniversary.
The 18th anniversary of Uinplra council,
Ne. 130, Jr. O, U. M., will be held te-morrow

terday Mr. Jacobs agreed te glve 'up
tbe Academy uf Musle in Rcadlrg,
after the first of April next. The
ewners of tbe heuse have arranged te take
it off his hands again. Who will manage
the theatre in the future has net been
decided by the owners. Thore has been
talk that Jehn D. Mlshler, the former
manager of the heuwand Mlshler's circuit,
but new with Bartholemew's horjes, would

cttltens of Reading would like te fee him
back in his old place and they think
buslness would be better.

Jereme Grubb, who was kneuti In the
community as "Shorty," died ut the county
hepltal en Wodnestlny. He was attacked

tions caused his death. He Was about 45
years old and was employed for a number
of years at the hotels In this city as a host

said street railway companies, their successors
or assigns, shall at the same time pave and ma ma
