THE CONSTABLES' RETURNS".

the last term of the court. Judge Patter
eon asked Censtable Herr, of tlie Eighth
ward, for his return and it was handed te
him. The court read It and asked Mr.
Herr if he did net knew of a vacant
honse in the Eighth ward occupied nightly
by a gang of boys who disturbed the neigh
borhood. Mr. Heir said he did, but that
the nuisance had been abated.
Tiie court asked Mr. Herr who owned
the building, and he said that Jehn Oil!
was the owner. The court Instructed Mr.
Herr te see that Mr. GUI did net again
rent his licue te tomtits who would
disturb the neighborhood.
The censtables of the nevcral districts
made their usual quarterly i eturns. There
were a few returns made for violation of
the law and the city of Lancaster was re
turned for maintaining nulsanceH in net
having the following street in pasable
conditien: North Mary, between Walnut
and James; North Prince, between Clay
and Lluerty ; East Cbestnut,betn eon North
Queen and Christian.

Benjamin Swlnchart charged with giving
liquor te a miner. The counsel Interested
In the case staled that the proseculor was
efweak mind and the complaint should
net have been brought. The defendant's
friends paid the cost and then the abeve
disposition was made of It.
