Conn., says: "Aunlque ploce of handi
work has Just been completed by Mrs.
8 jphlu Laratnere, of this city, who is new
approaching ber seventieth year. It Is a
mortuary v, rcath In memory or her hus
band, who was dead nearly flve years
before the curious symbol was begun.
She made it or relics of her late husband,
and or articles which were the property of
the wives who proceeded her. The friuiie
is or putty into which, while aeft, the win
dow placed, among ethers, the following
articles: In the centre or the top cress
plece are the spectacles or her late lamentcd
and a small lal containing the pills which
were lell ever from his last illness. BchUIus
these, there ure many small Btenes which
he had trcasured during life, his Jncknlfe,
a piece of candy, (which bIie siiys, he hud
left uneaten,) buttons or all kliulH fiem his
old clothing, and n small botlle containing
cbecae maue by ills first wife.

trouble connected with shipping them, but

decks and a gangway rigged and In the

gangway. The llrst one, as he struck the
deck, saw an opening In the ether side of
the beat, across which a hurdle had been
placed. Instead of going along te the corral
prepared, this sheep made a running Jump,
cleared the hurdle and lauded in the Bait
chuckulengKlde. Every one of the band
followed suit, and in a short time 600 sheep
were struggling In the water. The captain,
having seen the last one go down the plank
yelled eut: " All right down thore?" An
answer came back: "All right sir; send
them down." "Send them down," reared
the captain, "haven't you the sheep down
there T " " .Net a sheep sir. " was the reply,
and investigation showed that there was
net a sheep en the beat. The captain
could net delay any longer and se Jsteamed
awav, nnd only a small number of the
beep ever get ashore.

Valuation Itednced.
The city of Lancaster, through Its solici
tor te-day appealed from the valuation if
the old water works in Lancaster town
ship, as fixed for county purposes. The
commissioners exonerated the city from the
payment or the tax levied for 1889, as the
property was net occupied for water works
purposes. The valuation for 1800 was re
duced from $35,000 te 12,000.
