Mr. Christian Sharp has been sued,
which Is wet remnrkablej bocmise Mr.
Sharp has been sued before and eften. But
tills tlme Mr. Sharp hssn defence leMr.
Jere. Hife's tlalm of a hundred dollars.
He says Mr. Itife gave it te him for hush
money. He had paid In 'SO a bill of costs
te Jehn D. Skllcs, prothenolaryr which
bill he carrles around In his pockclbeok,
that showed n charge of illegal
fees. Ter this Mr. Sharp sued Mr. Skiles,
and for this he says that his friend, Jero
Illfc, came te his heuse and said that he
must sce him, though he, Sharp, was sick
abed belng Iho worse for liquor; and
thereupon the said Illfe was admltted te
his bedside, and taking a seat thercat ha
said te the sick man :
" Yen brought suit against Skiles."
" Yes."
"I want you te withdraw It."
" I must have n hundred dollars If I de."
"AVell, I wlllglc you a hundred dol
lars." Whereupon the sick Sharp arose from
his bed and walked out w Ith Blfe, and hied
himself te Alderman Ferdncy'sand with
drew the suit, but would net pay the costs;
whereupon and net till then did he get his
meney from Blfe : for which he gave him,
however, his no'le ; allowing apparently
that the transaction was a lean,iiH Blfe new
claims it and as in fact Sharp docs net secm
te deny It te be, strenuously claiming,
hewever, that he would net have get the
lean If he had net withdrawn the suit
against Skiles.
Ter which claim there scorns te be founda
tion ; sluce Mr. Blfe docs admit he did ask
the gracious Sharp te de the graceful thing
by Skllcs and withdraw Iho suit aforesaid.
And furthermore thorn dues net bceiu te
have been any particular icaseu why tlie
gcntle Blfe should penotrate te the bedside
of the intoxicated Sharp te pcrsiiadelilm te
accept a lean of a hundred dollars. Dees

Notnndse thcre may be music when
Lawyer Beland tries te collect that f 100

Mr. Sharp had g!en Mr. Blfe ns Aecurlty
for It a claim 011 which he had brought
suit against another man and en which
tlie arbitrators had given lit m Judgment
for ?175; mid which his attorney h after
wards settled for $100, giving him 00 and
keeping f 10, and leaving Jercmlah Blfe
out in the cold nltogethor ; te tlie great
scandal of the law and geed citizenship.
And the distinguished Sharp declureH
that lie would have paid the extinguished
Bire the 8100 when "his girls get a illtle
ahead" with his business; but new that
suit has been brought he Is going te show
up that receipt or rrothenotary Skiles and

It appears nstlieugh Chilstiau Sharp may
net wholly deserve his Christian name,
