Up from the meadow sedge tall
Floats musical the lark' clear call ;
Scarlet the lilies grew.
Love me. I pray you, while you may,
And beg the flying hours te May,
Fer lore shall end and dear delight,
The day Is lone, the day Is brlcht,

One of the most remarkable cases with
which the tncdic.il uiun or Southerii Illi
nois have had te contend that of Everett
Terry, a 11-year-old son or Farmer Terry,
of Orove township, Sullivan county. llo lle
cmtiy the youth, with a number of com
panions, went bathing In the Embarrass
river. Tcrrv prided himself en his diving
abilities. After making a Intifr dive he
told his companions that while under
water he had swallowed ttemethlnfr. He
seen becatna deathly sick, went home nnd
took te his bed. Several days later he was
seized with convulsions of the most vio
lent nature, and his sickness took the most
peculiar phase. Dr. Maxwell was sum
moned nnd wns puzzled with the centlU
tlen of the patient.
Uettteen the hours of 6 and 7 In the
morning Everett is able te take medicine.
After ttiat time his stomach will retain
neither llqulds'ner solids until 4 o'clock In
the evening, when he seems te crave for
feed, and partakes of mill;, meat and soup
with npnarent relish. ThlrtV minutes after
eating (he patient Is attacked with smother
ing spells. Me smacks his Jaws, winks
his eyes with lightning rapidity, and then
becomes unconscious Convulsions be be bo
cemo mero intense, nnd finally he grows se
violent that It requires the combined
strength of three men te held the nntlcut
en a pallet. These tltscentinueuiitil about
0 o'clock, when he gradually grown
calmer, eventually dozen oil" te sleep and
slumbers until daylight. Ills spasms nre
of ssevcrnl varieties, namely, cataleptic,
epileptic aud tetanic
In his convulsions he Imitates the voices
of animals and birds, the whlstle of a loco
motive and many ether Bounds. Fer four
days he was denied feed of any kind. On
the third day of his atarrnlieu the head of
a roptlle of sonie kind was been In his
threat.but nil dibits te secure it wcre fruit

President At thur, when he went cruising
en u -government vessel, which lie did
quite frequently, hail the president's Hag,
net befere known en nnv waters, Hung te
the breeze. President Harrison, whenever
he has goue down the Potomac into the
Cicsapcake or out of the capes, has ilis
lunseil with this insignia and employed
the stars and stripes only. Hut he has
adopted a novelty almost as great
a the president's Hag. It is in
having, by special designation, an army
efllecr In uniform attend him when
ever he gees abroad. Being thus desig
nated te attend the president, and in a sort
of way lend distinction, ene te the oilier,
it Is a spcclai;honer that Is no doubt highly
appreciated by the olllcer. When Prci Prci
dent llnriNen attended the centennial
celebration it was Lieutenant Judsen who
enjoyed the honor. Lust week It was
Lieutenanl-Colenol Mansfield who had the
distinction of indicating the neighborhood
of the president, for the elllcer designated
is expected never te be faraway from the
clilel magistrate el the nation.
