They Will Come Over te Occupy Chairs
In the Catholic University.
Notwithstanding the recent decision of
Solicitor of the Treasury Hepburn, ad
verse te the Imjiortatlen or the foreign pro
fessors engaged by Bishop Kenne last
winter for the Catholic university nt
Washington, these gentlemen will coine
te this country and take the places for
which they arelntcndcd.
The educators In question are theUcv.
Dr. Schrader, of the Cologne Seminary, for
dogmatic theolegv; Hev. Dr. Bnnnultlen,
or the University at LUle, moral theology r
Dr. Havcrnut, of the Appolenarl at Reme,
holy scriptures; Rev. Dr. Jeseph Pohle, of
Fufda, philosophy, and Charles War
ren Stoddard, English literature. It
will be remembered that after the ren
dering of Mr. Hepburn's opinion the
matter was carried before Attornev
General Miller, hoping for a roversal or
decision, but the attorney general uecnncn
te take up the case because It was as yet
hypothetical. He would glve no opinion
until the arrival In this country of the per por per
sens referred te. Since that tlme every
thing has been arranged, It Is understood,
te the cntire satisfaction of the university
authorities. Thov have been gl en assur
ances that their fereign educators will net
be interfered with.
Se n gentleman, a government elllcial of
high standing, said yesterday. There
will be no difficulty whatever, he said. The
professors will be permitted te land with
out quottten. If however, upon their ar
rival objections should ceme lrein any
nuarter, It will be decided, and very proi prei
crly tee, by competent authority, that the
law providing for tlrt exclusion of labor
under contract was net Intended te apply
te the class named herein.
General drenfell'd Offlclnt Repert.
Gun. Grcnfcil, in his official report of
Haturday'8 battle, says that the dervlshes
mnde repeated aud (lesperate charges upon
his men. They wero met by the infantry
In line of battle, supported by the Twentieth
Hussars and the Egyptian cavalry. The
Egyptian herse artillery did excellent ser
vice. The dervishes numbered 3,000 light
ing men. The British troops will new
return te Caire. The Egyptian killed and
v euuded number about 100. The khedlve
lias sent congratulations te General Gron Gren
fell. It has been decided that a jicrmancut
occupation of Sauiis is neoessary for the
protection of the frontier. A movement
upon Dongola Is deemed useless unless the
government assent te the view of the
English generals that Berber should be be
eold as the true key te the Soudan.
The latest advices glve the Egyptlau less
as 17 killed and 131 wounded. One thou
sand dervlshes wero made prisoners.
