were amply paid ter their bard work by
securing geed anm of money.
When Mr. Warfel'a family retina laet

0 o'clock thla met nine The key waa left
sticking In tbe lateh of the front deer ea
the Inside, last eTenlng, and tbe deer waa
looked. The thieves, with nlppera or by
aeme ether mesas, managed te tern the key
and afleeted an entrance wltbent breaking
anything. In the nertheaat comer of tbe din
leg room atoed a combination Merris d; Ire
land aat e, wbleh welgbed about 1,000 pound
Thla tbe thieves dragged ent en the poreb,
where lta mark a are plainly visible. They
then tumbled It en the ground back through
the yard and Inte tbe garden, te n point
about 75 yarda from the plaee where It bad
been. Although tbe ground waa frozen
bard tbe marka abew that the aafe waa
turned eyer and ever again until thla epet
waa reached. Tbe thlevee then turned It
ever en the aide, with the deer up. They
drilled a hole In tbe front deer juit beiew
tbe knob, which la need In turning the
bells. Powder or dynamite waa then
Inserted and tbe deer waa blown te pieces.
One et the large belle waa blown entirely
out ana tbe eife waa totally wrecked. After
the large deer bad been opened it waa an
easy matter te open the inside one. The
email wooden drawer were pried open and
from them tbe thieve atele 1565 in geld,
and about 150 in ether money belonging te
Mr. Warfel, and (43 belonging te Herman
.Leng, who la treasurer of tbe Lutheran
Sunday ichoel. Thla morning It CO waa
found in the sate and scattered around 'en
the ground about It. The burglars, It
sseems, wanted nothing but money,
aa s large number of papers that
were In tbe small .drawers, were left un
touched. Tbe tblevca first drilled a hole
In tbe top et the sale. After they had
gotten through tbe outside Iren and the
composition, they came te tbe Inside iron
and slopped. Altbengb tbe burglars ran
sacked tbe whole lower part of the house
and turned the furniture tepay turvy, they
took nothing.
There must have been three or four men
In tbe party, aa two could scarcely have
bandied such a heavy aafe in the meaner It

the aafe atoed there waa long strip erf carpet
leading from one deer te another. 1 be thieves
rolled this up and also took two Urge and
very flae cushions, wbleh were en the
lounges. Ot tbess they msds two enadlss

waa blown In order te deaden the sound.
This morning these artlelea were found
under the sate and an overcoat belonging
te Mr. Warlel and aahawl of hla little daugh

burglary waa committed no one seems te
knew. Mrs. Warfel beard s nelte about
2 o'clock and waa awakened. She lighted
the lamp and listened for the dega te bark,
but when ahe did net hear them ahe went
baek te bed and did net get up until
about 0 o'clock. The dega are usually
restless, but it la believed the Iblevea gave
them acmethlng In order te keep them
qulet Tenes Kockafellew, who Uvea la

none of lham knew what It was.
Who tbe thlevea are la a mystery, but no
one wbn baa seen hew the J )b waa done can
have any doubt that they were experla In
their line. They bid probably made
tbemselvea well acquainted with tbe henae
belore tbey cracked It and knew exaetly
the habile el tbe family, where tbey eleep,
1x3. Thft mornleg tracks were found In
tbe garden where tbe men tumbled the
sate, but nothing could be learned
from them. Tbe only artlele left behind
by the thlevee waa a wooden dirt
atamper, wbleh tbey bad probably
atelen somewhere in the neighborhood
te uae in moving tbe esfe. It waa found
near the fence In front of the house. Thla
morning a great nnmber of people visited
Mr. Warfel'a house and looked at the
work of thetblevea -bteb, alt admitted, waa
well done. Mr. Warfel took tbe matter
very coolly aa hedeea net believe In crying
