A Html Scheme.
On Tuesday morning a man using two
cratches, having his lett leg en" below the
knee, arrived In town and went te see
Majer J. W. Yocum, of the tyy. The man
gave his name as lienry Cole and tbnt he
was a soldier In the war. His cortlllcate
bowed that he enlliited In a Lancaster
county regiment, serving through tbe
war and then In the regular army. Tbe
Man said that his leg was cut ell In
railway accident ana be was solic
iting money te buy an artificial
limn. Mr. Yocum gare him twenty
five cents, writing his name In his book for
that amount. The man called upon Post Pest
master Cbas. F. Yeung, whero he obtained
fifty cents. He aecured money at ether
places, and at last went te Dr. J. U, Mo Me
Bride, where he showed bis book. The
book contained tbe names of Messrs,
Yocum, Yeung and ether1, for ene
dollar each. Dr. Mollrlde told (Jele
that he would call upon Mr. Yocum
and If tbe story was true he would
leave a dollar at that place Mr. Yocum
WAS asked about the matter and he stated
that be had net given a dollar. Yesterday
saernlng Mr. Yocum met the man en tbe
atreetand obtalned bis book aud was sur
prised te see his name for ene dollar. Cole
bad traced his name en another leaf and
tnenralsed the amount. The work was Se
well done that Mr. Yocum could hardly
believe that be bad net'wiltteu It. Mr.
Yocum compelled Cole te visit all the
places where he had obtalned the meuey
and refund the money or te arrested for
forgery. He then left town.
