A brief summary of the history of the
Presbyterian church was thua prosentod:

waa organized by the Rev. Richard Denten
at Hempstead, Leng Island, In 101 1, It la
prebable that the first prcsbyterv was
I organized by toveral tnlnlsters at Phila
delphia In 1705 or 1700. Tbe first synod

nytery dividing ltaeit into lour presby
teries and constituting Itself tbe Byned.
Tbe goneral assembly waa organized en
tbe leurtb Thursday or May, 1783. In that
year the synod of Mew Yerk and Philadel
phia dlvlded Itself Inte four synods
namely, tbe synods of Mew Yerk and Mew
Jersey, of Philadelphia, of Virginia and et
tbe Carolina. It tben ordered n goneral

This synod, befere Its Anal adjournment
in 17S3, amended and adopted the West

States of America.
On tbe 21th of May of this year (1SS8)
lacelebrated the one hundredth meellng of
tbe general assembly. The special day or

tbe aunlversary of tbe passage of the reso
lutions adopting the constitution of the
church, erecting the four synods and crea
ting the goneral nesembly. The prin
