Section 13 Every person receiving such
license te sell spirituous, vinous, malt or
brewed liquors, or any aduiixtnre thereof,

dealera, "brewers, distillers, rectifiers, com
peunders, storekeepers aud agenta having
stores or offices within this commonwealth
dealing ln Intoxicating liquors, either
spirituous, vinous or luali, pay ter each sep
arate store, brewery distillery, rectllylug or
compounding establishment or agency an
annual license, In cities of tbe first, second
and thint classes, the sum of five hundred
dollars; In all ether cltle, the-sum et three
hundred dollars; ln boroughs, the sum of
two hundred dollars, and lu townships, the
sum of one hundred dollars, which sum
shall be paid into the stale treasury ter the
use et the commonwealth.
Section " Licenses sball be granted only
by the court of quarter sessions of tbe proper
county in such manner as Is provided by ex
isting lavs, and sball be for one year from a
date fixed by rule or standing order of said
court; tbe said court aball fix by rule or
standing order a time at which application
for said liceuses shall be heard, at which
time all persons applying or making ob
jections te applications for licenses may be
heard by evidence, petition, remenstrauce or
counsel : J'revtded, Tbat for the present
year licenses may be granted under previous
laws at any session fixed by said court, net
later than June thirty: Provided further,
That It shall net be lawful for any rectifier,
compeunder, wholesale dealer, storekeeper,
agent or bottler te sell In less quantities than
one quart, and distillers, brewers snd manu
facturers shall net sell tn less quantities than
one gallon.
Section 3. Tbat all bottlers within thla
commonwealth shall be required te procure
liceDne from the court of quarter sessions of
the respective counties In which they are lo
cated, lu the manner provided for In the
second section et this act, for which they
shall pay the sum of two hundred dollars in
cities et the first, second and third classes,
one hundred dollars In all ether cities, bor
oughs and tewnships: Provided, Tbat no
bottler shall be permitted te sell spirituous,
vinous, mall or brewed liquors te be drank
upon the premises where sold, nor at any
place provided by such seller for that pur-

the ineit popular war-song of the Seuth. Its
tune Is none ether than tbat of tbe peaceful
and pathetic old tierman lyric "Tannen
baum, O Tanuenbatim" (translated by Leng,
fellow as "O Hemlock Tree"), used also aa a
well-known college song, " Laurlger Hora Hera
tlus," Hew My Maryland" get this tune is
thus pleasantly told ln a letter from Mra
Prof. II. Newell Martin, who when yet un
married as Miss Hetty Cary et Baltimore,
