Anether fearful wreck occurred en the
Pennsylvania railroad this morning at 4
o'clock at a point Just east of Elm station;
engine Na 35 drawing a heavy freight train
ran into the Mar of another trala Tbe result
wm a total wreck of the second train and a
terrible smash-up, Eeglne 35 wm broken te
pieces and thrown across the track.
Tsrenty-twe cars, the majority of which
were leaded with coal, and tbe ethers haul
ing merchandise, were wrecked and broken
te pieces. Thirteen of tbe cars were piled u p
in a pce of about one hundred feet At
this point there are four tracks and all et
them were blocked. The last train te pass
the point before tbe wreck wm tbe PaclUc
Express, wblch arrived here at 1:35 Trie

te pass until between 10 and 11 o'clock this
forenoon. News Eipresa was the first pas
senger train te come here. It came In at

Merris Thompson, engineer of tbe second

tbe mala building et Franklin and Marshall

Tbe entire building bM been painted and
carpenter work done where needed. Tbe
recitation walla are no longer gloomy, but are
covered with a pleasing color la oil, m are

woodwork tuw been painted Inside and out.
This 1 one of tbe largest Jobs of painting
done In this city thla summer, tbe building
being very large. It required mere than a
ten et white lead, mere than two barrela of
oil, together with a large quantity el colors.
A large force of men have been at work three
and a half weeks la painting the building

In Charles M. Hewell's marble yard may
be seen the eldest tombstone In LancMter
county, and one et the very eldest In the
state. It is of grsy sandstone, three feet and
five inches in height, one feet six inches in
width, and four inchf thick. The top et tbe
stone Is ornamented with scroll work
et a rather pretty pattern, and the
inscription, wblcb bM been well nigh
obliterated by tbe storms of mere
than a century and a halt, Is rut upon a
sunken panel around which is a well cut
raised meulding. Tbe lettering en tbe stone
isery rudely executed and evidently wm
net done by the same band that cut tbe scroll
