presume te tbe fact that meat being mere

mere transitory.
Tbe objections te the use of meat that

First Its mere stimulating character.
Second. The animals may net be In a

Tbla objection does net apply te milk and

First. Because In tha domesticated cow J

Second. Poisons taken by the cow would

Third. It being the natural feed for In

Franklin changed twice from a mixed diet
te vegetarianism and twice beck te tbe ordi
nary mixed diet without Inconvenience.
The chief point, I think, te pay attention
te when making tbe change la te guard
against eating tee much. When t first made
the change I thought that it was absolutely
necessary te make up for the deficiency of
meat by a large quantity of grains, such aa
wbeaten grits, eat meal or Indian meal, etc,
and tbe mere nutritious vegetables, such aa
peas, beitns, lentils, etc., and I am satisfied
that I often took mush mere very nutri
tious feed than the needa of my system de
manded. 1 have enjoyed excellent health en the
usual mixed diet, and also as a vegetarian,
and think any one In geed condition can de
the same If excess of feed be guarded against
and a fair amount et fresh air and exercise
taken.
While I urge no one te become a vege
tarian, I de urge Americana generally te use
meat but enre a day, and In tbe Intense beat
et our summers 1 think that that may be
emitted with advantage.
It Is claimed by vegetarians that they en
joy greater Immunity from disease than per
sons using the mixed diet, and I think that
la net without some foundation. Tbe ex
perience of a sect In Philadelphia known aa
Bible Christians," who during several
epidemics devoted themselves te nursing In
the hospitals, seems te corroborate this.
