Pennsjlvanla railroad, says that the
experiments are interesting and successful,

lack of oil at a suitable price. I f coal were
te be entirely displaced by the use of oil ac
cording te the methods new used in llussia,
the demand for tiie Pennsylvania railroad
company alone would exhaust the supply
within a few years aud would at once send
up the price beyond the point at which it
would be profitable te make a change. The
Fennsjlvanla railroad new uses about
6,000 tens of coal a day, and the amount of
oil necessary te take the place of this
would be equal te about one-third of the
production of pctieleum in this country at
present.
The oil used is an inferior grade, useless
for anything but fuel, and found in the
natural gas regions of Ohie. As there hits
been no market for it, no eilert has been
made te develop it, but it is believed te
exist in very large quantities, and the de
Band may bring te light.
Colonel Haln, of the New Yerk elevated
leads, who has taken much interest in the
matter, has ordered the apparatus for two
locomotives, lie says that he has noticed
